Purpose

The Core Curriculum Program Manager will oversee the University’s core curriculum, ensuring institutional alignment and continuity of prescribed core competencies.

Responsibilities

Oversee core curriculum and flag degree audit system. Participate in campus-wide degree audit users’ group to keep abreast of degree audit system updates. Manage core and flag course lists and monitor individual college needs and preferences of course ordering.

Maintain and coordinate the core requirements, policies, and course lists in the Undergraduate Catalog and General Information Catalog, including drafting revisions and presenting them to relevant committees and audiences; manage changes through legislative and approval processes; track recommendations made in each college and school; monitor the impact of course inventory changes and transfer courses on the core; generate and follow up on approval documents as needed.

Serve as the liaison and expert on the core curriculum with campus stakeholders, including but not limited to the Provost, Faculty Council, Registrar's Office, Admissions Office, CCAC, college and school assistant and associate deans, academic advisors, orientation advisors, course schedulers, and departmental contacts. Regularly review and coordinate update of all core-related content on the applicable website(s) and catalogs for all appropriate audiences. Participate on professional committees, on and off campus, representing the University and Academic Affairs.

Collaborate with Academic Affairs assessment team in the ongoing process of core curriculum assessment, examining evidence of student demonstration of prescribed core competencies in each core component area. Work with CCAC to review rubric and competencies, connect with departments to determine faculty participants, work with faculty members to identify student work for assessment, assist assessment team with rating of student work, and report final results back to departments, university leadership, and Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB).

Manage the University’s core curriculum, including understanding the effect of changes to the core course list on various degree programs, overseeing the integrity of the core by tracking and meeting long-term scheduling and enrollment goals (including the impact of transfer courses), generating enrollment reports for leadership, and anticipating and responding to potential discrepancies in core legislation. Provide reports, compliance updates, and notice of core course list changes to the THECB and others. Keep abreast of THECB rules and legislative actions for any potential effects on UT's core.

Provide administrative support for the Academics Curriculum Advisory Committee and the Core Curriculum Advisory Committee. Prepare materials and meeting summaries, maintain membership list, and serve as primary contact and filter.

Participate in core petitions committee’s review of all student petitions for core course credit. Implement petition decisions in degree audit system. Maintain core overrides and analyze them for potential degree policy recommendations.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in a field related to the work to be performed. Three years’ experience coordinating or administering an academic program, including producing accurate reports, managing student records, and working across multiple stakeholder groups. Experience teaching or working with college students. Outstanding written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. Demonstrated experience in taking initiative and seeking solutions within boundaries of the role, including understanding when to rely on independent judgment and when to collaborate on decision making. Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with faculty and staff across multiple offices and levels. Professional demeanor.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

PhD in a field related to the work to be performed. Experience working with students, faculty, and staff at UT Austin and/or at a university in Texas. Two years performing degree audits at UT Austin. General knowledge of UT Austin course offerings and degree plans.  Experience coordinating or administering a program which involved strict adherence to university and state policy requirements. Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate education and/or core curriculum requirements, including assessment related to undergraduate curriculum quality.

Salary Range

$75,000+ depending on qualifications

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
