Program Manager II, Tech | AI and Data Solutions - GSS | Field Data Collection

You are not afraid to drive teams to deliver results, and you act with empathy and integrity. **What the Candidate Will Do:** - Data Collection & System Management - Lead the deployment and operation of various data collection projects including but not limited to App based, dashcam, LiDAR, ensuring that data is captured with high precision and accuracy - Manage the calibration, configuration, and troubleshooting of sensors and related field equipment - Manage field data collection activities, ensuring that data is captured according to predefined protocols for spatial resolution, point density, and system accuracy - Conduct georeferencing and geospatial alignment of point clouds, ensuring data integrity and consistency across multiple sensors and platforms - Develop and implement strategies for data acquisition and collection - Data Quality Assurance & Processing - Oversee the post-processing of data, including noise filtering, classification, feature extraction, and accuracy assessment - Ensure proper data formatting and conversion for downstream integration with GIS and modeling software - Program & Team Leadership - Lead a multidisciplinary team of field technicians, specialists, and field coordinators to ensure the successful execution of complex data collection campaigns - Design and implement training programs to ensure field teams are proficient in the operation of systems, sensors, data collection protocols, and safety procedures - Manage team logistics, equipment deployments, and scheduling to optimize field operations and minimize downtime - Provide technical leadership in troubleshooting complex field and system issues, ensuring minimal data loss and operational interruptions - Technical Process Optimization & Innovation - Continuously evaluate emerging technologies, data collection techniques, and processing workflows to improve operational efficiency and data quality - Implement automation and batch processing workflows for data post-processing to streamline data handling and reduce manual interventions - Logistics & Resource Management - Oversee the logistical aspects of field operations, including the deployment of systems, sensors and other field equipment - Ensure equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and prepared for deployment, minimizing the risk of technical failures in the field - Manage field data collection budgets, resources, and timelines, optimizing efficiency while ensuring high-quality outcomes - Risk Management & Safety Compliance: - Implement risk management strategies for data collection campaigns, particularly when operating in challenging environments - Ensure that all field activities comply with relevant regulatory guidelines, data privacy laws, and health and safety standards - Conduct pre-field assessments to identify potential hazards, equipment malfunctions, or environmental factors that could impact data collection operations - Exceptional understanding of regulations around data collection across the globe **Basic Qualifications:** - 7+ years of experience in geospatial data collection and field operations, with at least 2 years of specialized experience in LiDAR data collection - Extensive hands-on experience with LiDAR systems (e.g., Leica, Riegl, Velodyne) and point cloud data processing - Experience managing large-scale field data collection programs, including coordinating teams and resources, managing logistics, and ensuring data accuracy and integrity. - Proficient in LiDAR data processing software (e.g., Leica Cyclone, CloudCompare, TerraScan, ArcGIS) and point cloud analysis techniques. - Deep technical knowledge of LiDAR technology, including sensor types, calibration methods, and data acquisition techniques. - Expertise in point cloud data processing, classification, and analysis, including familiarity with algorithms for feature extraction and automated processing workflows. - Advanced proficiency with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS, AutoCAD, Bentley) and geospatial data integration. - Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage complex technical projects across multiple teams and stakeholders. - Experience with mobile mapping technologies. - In-depth understanding of geospatial data formats (LAS, LAZ, PTS) and data conversion tools - Strong problem-solving abilities, particularly in the context of field equipment troubleshooting and data anomalies - Able to drive insights based on information from disparate sources - Excellent written and verbal communication skills with outstanding emotional intelligence - Ability to influence and empower people across a variety of job functions through your relationships - Outstanding organizational skills with the ability to balance many tasks without losing sight of the highest-priority items - Strong bias towards action. You drive end-to-end results and are always thinking ahead - Obsessive attention to detail and you are constantly looking for ways to tweak and optimize for better results **Preferred Qualifications:** - Worked at a high-paced, fast-growing tech startup, large tech company, or has a consulting background - Direct the use of software tools for point cloud registration, alignment, and mosaicking - Geospatial data integration and analysis - Bachelor’s degree in Geospatial Sciences or a related technical field. A Master’s degree or advanced certification in LiDAR or remote sensing is highly preferred - Knowledge of cloud-based geospatial data management platforms and automation tools for LiDAR data processing For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$125,000 per year - USD$139,000 per year. You will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
