The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) is a global health organization committed to our mission of saving lives and reducing the burden of disease in low-and middle-income countries. We work at the invitation of governments to support them and the private sector to create and sustain high-quality health systems.
CHAI was founded in 2002 in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic, with the goal of dramatically reducing the price of life-saving drugs and increasing access to these medicines in the countries with the highest burden of the disease. Over the following two decades, CHAI has expanded its focus. Today, along with HIV, we work in conjunction with our partners to prevent and treat infectious diseases such as COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis, and hepatitis. Our work has also expanded into cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and other non-communicable diseases, and we work to accelerate the rollout of lifesaving vaccines, reduce maternal and child mortality, combat chronic malnutrition, and increase access to assistive technology. We are investing in horizontal approaches to strengthen health systems through programs in human resources for health, digital health, and health financing. With each new and innovative program, our strategy is grounded in maximizing sustainable impact at scale, ensuring that governments lead the solutions, that programs are designed to scale nationally, and learnings are shared globally.
At CHAI, our people are our greatest asset, and none of this work would be possible without their talent, time, dedication and passion for our mission and values. We are a highly diverse team of enthusiastic individuals across 40 countries with a broad range of skill sets and life experiences. CHAI is deeply grounded in the countries we work in, with the majority of our staff based in program countries. Learn more about our exciting work: http://www.clintonhealthaccess.org

Program Overview:
CHAI began work in Cameroon in 2007 with a focus on improving access to HIV diagnosis, care, and treatment. Since then, the partnership between Cameroon’s Ministry of Health (MOH) and CHAI has evolved beyond HIV to include a wide range of cross-cutting health system challenges across various vertical programs including Malaria, the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI), Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), Medical Oxygen, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH), and Sexual and Reproductive health (SRH).
Over the past decade, CHAI has supported the MOH to reduce Maternal, Newborn and Child mortality, enhance the quality of Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) services provided in health facilities, and improve the availability and accessibility of contraceptive products at all levels of the Cameroonian healthcare system via healthcare worker mentoring and capacity building activities. Building on these successes and the resulting high level of collaboration and trust established with the MOH, CHAI recently received funding from the Hormonal Intra Uterine Device (HIUD) Access group via the Catalytic Opportunity Fund (COF) to support the Cameroon MOH in the introduction of HIUDs into the public system. CHAI’s goal is to support and accompany the MOH to achieve its goal of ensuring access to a wide range of safe and effective modern contraceptive methods to Cameroonian girls and women.
Role Overview:
CHAI seeks a highly motivated individual with excellent analytical ability, strong communication and advocacy skills for the role of Program Officer, HIUD Access. This role requires strong organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with diverse partners and stakeholders in the pursuit of sustainable impact.
The Program Officer will play a critical role in supporting the MOH via its Department of Family Health to put in place robust coordination mechanisms for the optimal introduction of HIUDs; develop clear policies, guidelines and protocols that describe the interventions, skills, and equipment required at each level of the health system for HIUD introduction; and update data capture mechanisms to inform decision-making around HIUD products upon introduction.
This position will be based in Yaoundé, with frequent local travel. The duration of the assignment will be for a period of 12 months renewable, contingent on performance and the availability of funding.
If you are passionate about making a sustainable impact on public health, specifically in the field of SRH, and possess the skills and qualifications outlined above, whatever your background, we invite you to apply for this exciting opportunity.
