Job Summary:
The Program Officer will play a pivotal role in evaluating project outcomes, developing effective tools and reporting procedures, and collaborating with OFNIE leadership to prepare comprehensive interim reports for the Foundation. This position also involves engaging with key stakeholders to assess and enhance the impact and effectiveness of various projects.
Primary Responsibilities:
Manages and implements aspects of McGill’s Indigenous Tuition Initiative including the operationalization of activities from all the project’s partners.
Oversees initiatives that support relationship building with Indigenous community partners and McGill stakeholders integral to student support.
Manages implementation of University-wide policies and practices that are Indigenous-student specific and/or will have a considerable impact on Indigenous students at McGill (e.g. Indigenous membership/citizenship validation).
Develops and manages the Advancing Indigenous Knowledges and Community Relations Program, which supports the respectful and culturally relevant inclusion of Indigenous knowledges through visitor/event initiatives across the university.
Identifies gaps and streamlines communications/information transfers between Indigenous community and McGill units in relation to student initiatives.
Develops and implements new initiatives internally and externally (e.g. working with Indigenous media, establishing presence within Indigenous community and engaging with Indigenous leadership such as education authorities to share information that affects their students) Contributes to key communications efforts organized within the Office of Indigenous Initiatives.
Develops and oversees the internal systems and tools to manage data generated by new initiatives aimed at increasing Indigenous student support.
Prepares statistical reports on special initiatives/projects towards unit reporting, ongoing project evaluation and planning.
The Program Officer will also prepare, manage, and execute day-to-day financial tasks related to their responsibilities, and perform other duties as assigned.
Directly supervises clerical staff and assists with their training.
Performs other duties as required to support the overall objectives and operations of the department.
Qualifying Skills and other responsibilities
Demonstrated or proven program and project management experience.
Strong organizational and management skills to implement and coordinate activities among project partners effectively.
Strong relationship-building skills to engage effectively with community partners and stakeholders.
Experience working with and knowledge of Indigenous partners or communities is an asset.
Knowledge of university policies affecting Indigenous students is an asset.
Ability to develop internal systems for tracking and managing data related to student support initiatives.
Proficient in a PC environment using specialized databases, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, email and the Internet.
Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level #4 on a scale of 0-4
Proven ability to lead and train clerical staff, fostering a supportive and productive work environment.
