Duties Description Reporting to Program Research Specialist 4, the Program Research Specialist 3 will direct and supervise the work of analysts who prepare statistical information reported through justice system data collections including but not limited to crime, arrests, court case dispositions, police use of force, and criminal justice involved populations. Duties include, but are not limited to: • Train and supervise the work of Program Research Specialists, Research Scientists, and Graduate Research Assistants. • Oversee the preparation of statistical data posted to the agency’s public website using statistical software packages. • Oversee the preparation of statutorily required reports including the preparation of data and written narrative; • Develop and maintain data dashboards and visualizations using software such as Tableau; • Oversee the preparation of Executive-level presentations including constructing graphical representations of justice system trends using Excel; • Oversee the preparation of data files for submission to Open Data NY;• Oversee responses to requests for information and data received through the agency’s statistical requests process;• Provide technical expertise to the NYS Crime Reporting Program and ITS to address identified data quality and system issues affecting crime and other data reported by law enforcement agencies; • Review and summarize proposed and enacted legislation impacting core statistical reporting functions of the office.
Minimum Qualifications Permanent service in this title or one year of permanent-competitive or 55B/C service in a title SG-23 or higher and otherwise eligible for transfer under Civil Service Law.Provisional: One year of permanent-competitive or 55B/C service as a Program Research Specialist 2, SG-23. If appointed provisionally, you must take and pass the next exam for this position and be reachable on the resulting eligible list.A permanent appointment pursuant to Section 52.7 of Civil Service Law may be possible if there are three or fewer current DCJS employees meeting the above provisional qualifications that are interested in this position.
