The Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science has an exciting opportunity for a full time Assistant Program Safety Officer - Boating.The incumbent will serve as a course instructor, providing small boat training, authorization, and certification to University of Miami faculty, staff, and students. The incumbent will also assist the BSO with operational logistics, maintenance, and administrative duties. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES + Ensure safe operation of the RSMAS Small Boats Program and compliance with federal, state, and local laws, in addition to UM policies and procedures + Teach small boat operator courses; provide training, UM operator authorization, and Department of the Interior Motorboat Operator Certification Course (MOCC) certification + Coordinate and provide scientific boating support to RSMAS small boat user groups (operational direction and assistance, project preparations and planning, emergency and contingency planning, etc.) + Assist with maintenance and repair of RSMAS small boats, trailers, and safety equipment + Assist with administrative work and program scheduling, coordinating with department managers to implement operational and procedural improvements within the RSMAS Small Boats Program EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS + Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university + MOCC, Motorboat Operator Training Course (MOTC), or equivalent training + First Aid/CPR certification + Valid Florida driver’s license QUALIFICATIONS + Two (2) years of experience operating, maintaining, and trailering small boats + Knowledge of federal, state, and local maritime laws and policies + Proven experience as an effective leader, with a demonstrated capacity for teaching, training, and/or instructing The University of Miami is an Equal Opportunity Employer - Females/Minorities/Protected Veterans/Individuals with Disabilities are encouraged to apply.
