Program Specialists perform a variety of professional and technical support services for the City's Communications & Engagement Department, including graphic design and layout, website development and design, visual and digital communication, copywriting, proofreading, and technical writing and research. The position: + Digital Communications Program Specialist: The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of entry to mid-level graphic design work, support social media development and planning, digital communications (video), and copywriting/proofreading. This recruitment will create eligibility list and may be used to fill future Program Specialist vacancies in other City departments. Your Impact + Utilize computer graphic programs to design layouts and illustrate brochures, fliers, publications, reports, forms, maps, social media posts, and public presentations. + Operate a broad range of sophisticated computer software to design, lay out, and illustrate a variety of materials such as fliers, newsletters, brochures, posters, maps, graphs, reports, social media posts, and marketing/promotional materials for department and City initiatives and events. + Plan and create digital communications including videos, reels, and other visual elements. + Develop written copy following City style guidelines; develop graphics and visual images to illustrate the message and select photographs when appropriate. + Assist in coordinating activities with central reprographic unit, commercial printers, photographers, writers, editors, and suppliers of various publication services. + Assist with administering the department's presence on the website; support content development for communicating the department's messages on events and issues. Provide support for continued development of the department's brand and marketing. + Assist with the administration of the City's primary social media accounts; support development of content strategy for communicating the messages of the City Council and City Manager, and for major significant City events and issues. Best Fit + At least three years of increasingly responsible experience in public relations, graphic illustration, video production, or multimedia communications, including knowledge of website development applications and Adobe Creative Suite. + Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. + The ability to adapt to changing priorities and handle highly sensitive and confidential information while providing exceptional customer service. + Excellent time management skills, and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with a high attention to detail. + Exceptional writing and editing skills. Proficiency in MS Office software. Minimum Qualifications + Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, graphics and web design, film/television/media production, or related field, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. Communications & Engagement Department The City of Irvine Communications & Engagement Department plays a crucial role in maintaining an effective flow of information between the City government and its residents, businesses, and visitors. This department is responsible for ensuring that the public is well-informed about city policies, initiatives, events, programs, and services. It manages various channels of communication, including the City's website, Inside Irvine, social media platforms, press releases, digital media, video, and more, to disseminate important information to the community. Additionally, the department engages with the public through community outreach programs and public relations efforts, seeking to foster a sense of community and facilitate feedback and participation from the Irvine community. The department is also home to the City’s International and Multicultural Affairs programs and Irvine Community Television.
