DEFINITION
PART-TIME OPPORTUNITY

This is a part-time position in the Public Works Department. The Public Works Department is currently seeking to fill three (3) part-time vacancies. Two (2) in the Community Enhancement Section and one (1) part-time vacancy in the Traffic Signal Section. Incumbents will be assigned to the crews that are assigned to debris pickup and and graffiti abatement an electrical crew that are assigned to mark underground service alert for underground infrastructure. Primary duties include operating a variety of hand and power tools used in the work to perform physical labor related to debris pickup and graffiti removal using water blasting and other graffiti removal methods. Incumbents in the traffic signal section will use a computer, USA software, and power tools to mark utility locations within the city's right of way.
The incumbents in this position will work approximately 40 hours a week and will work no more than 950 hours per fiscal year. Once the incumbents have reached the total amount of allotted hours, their assignment will end. Incumbents will work Incumbents will work approximately 40 hours a week. The work schedule will include Saturdays and Sundays.

Prior to appointment, eligible candidates will be required to pass a medical exam, to include a back evaluation, and submit to and successfully pass a background investigation, which will include fingerprinting.
Under general supervision, performs routine and skilled work in the maintenance of park and public works infrastructure; operates smaller trucks, tractors, a variety of hand and power tools, and equipment; performs related work as assigned.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
Public Works Maintenance Worker I is the entry level class in this series. Initially, under close supervision, incumbents learn and perform a variety of duties in the maintenance of park and public works infrastructure.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
Possession of a High School Diploma or GED. Park and public works infrastructure maintenance, training or experience is desirable.
Other Requirements:
+ Must possess a valid California Class "C" driver's license.
+ Must possess sufficient strength and stamina to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and perform sustained heavy physical labor.
+ Must be willing to work out of doors in all weather conditions, to work with exposure to traffic and to work overtime and off hours shifts in emergency situations.
+ Possession of a California Class "A" driver's license is desirable.
