Job Purpose:
Direct management of academic delivery and overseeing the management of academic programmes under the supervision of the Principal and Academic Manager. The mandate includes managing the operational efficiency of the academic team and overseeing the student support function.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Academic Support
Responsible for Academic Development and Performance MonitoringLecturer and Programme Co-ordinators peer evaluation and reviewsFaculty performanceMonitoring effective use of Learn activitiesStructured/scheduled class visits to assess and review the delivery of quality teaching and learningStudent evaluation of teaching (SET)Teaching & Learning
Accountable for the delivery of Teaching and Learning, which will include
Direct academic student engagementStudent success rate – at a modular levelStudent support and developmentTeaching and Learning; in and out of the classroomProgramme Coordination Committee meetingsContributes to programme improvements, both content and assessmentsModule/subject consultationsManagement of resources
Responsible for recruitment of department and/or faculty-assigned resources, which will include
Programme CoordinatorsFull-Time LecturersIndependent ContractorsTutorsTo be informed and knowledgeable regarding the staff management of supporting teams, which include
Academic Operations team (AOO, AOC, AOA & VP)Career Centre staffCommerce staffManagement and leadership
Responsible for the management and leadership of department/faculty in respect of
On-boarding of staffCreation and management of campus timetablesCreation and promotion of academic culture on campusResult analysis and student support interventions/activitiesImplementation and collaboration of teaching and learning strategies and activitiesTo consult on issues regarding: -
Academic and student support integrationCoordination of student’s admission into programmes
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce (Hons) and Post Graduate Diploma/Certificate in Education/BEd HonoursStudying towards Masters in Commerce will be advantageousWork Experience:
5+ years of Higher Education lecturing experience in Commerce3 - 5 years in Teacher or Lecturer developmentAn understanding of the current South African Higher Education regulatory framework and its impact on higher education and private colleges
