Position Details Location Hattiesburg 118 College Drive Hattiesburg, Mississippi, 39406-0001 United States Division VP Research Position Type Staff Employment Status Full Time Grant Funded Yes Pay Grade E15 Posting Close Date 5 days after posted Job Summary The Programs Manager will provide hands-on support to the Mississippi Polymer Institute’s (MPI’s) different strategic programs with initial focus on the sustainability / sustainable materials program at the Mississippi Polymer Institute. This support will encompass management of all aspects of the program including technical, budgetary, and reporting requirements. This position will also involve activities in the laboratory such as conducting experiments, analytical and physical testing support, as well as managing associated ISO and other regulatory requirements related to MPI’s industrial support efforts. Primary Duties and Responsibilities + Manage the Institute’s activities related to Sustainability and Sustainable Materials. This management includes planning, management, ordering, budgetary monitoring, interfacing with contractors, and report writing. + Work with the lab manager and the director to conduct MPI development activities in support of MPI’s goals. These activities will be overarching. + Interface with customers and colleagues, creating scopes of work, quoting, and carrying out customer projects: conducting and analyzing, and reporting laboratory work, findings, and conclusions. Such customer projects also include performing physical, thermal, and analytical analyses. + Help create and manage the Institute’s other strategic programs. This includes planning, writing, management, ordering, budgetary monitoring, interfacing with contractors, working alongside colleagues to execute, and report writing for projects and grants. + Directly involved in creating and managing all regulatory activities such as ISO, Sustainability Certifications, etc. + Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications M.S. in Molecular Biology/Microbiology or equivalent science-based degree, 10+ years in a laboratory environment, 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing/product producing company, Has created regulatory programs and been responsible for USDA, FDA, and/or GMP accreditation/compliance, Lab management experience, Program and/or grant management experience, Direct experience with sustainable materials: Research, Development, Manufacturing, and/or Application/Use. Competent in cell culture, bioreactor process development, proliferation assays, materials research, technical writing, project management. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities + Skilled at laboratory synthesis and common biotechnology techniques + Knowledge of laboratory management and operation required. + Knowledge of technical program management and project management required. + Familiar with regulatory processes and what it takes to become ‘approved’. + Skill in timely and effective communication required. + Ability to use MS office or similar programs to create effective presentations and reports. + Ability to work with people at all levels both inside and outside of the organization. + Ability to travel with occasional overnight stays.
