Project Accountant

As a Project Accountant, you will ensure the accurate and timely entry and reporting of financial data within the company’s systems. Your key responsibilities will include managing accounts receivable, subcontractor payments, payroll processing, equipment time tracking, accounts payable, and supporting month-end close activities. You will collaborate closely with management and project teams to guarantee data accuracy, timeliness, and completeness. Essential responsibilities:

Implement and manage effective project cost control systemsUnderstand and communicate project contractual and commercial termsProvide leadership with accurate cost reporting and strategic insightsContribute to the development and execution of collective agreementsCoordinate the collection and submission of invoicing documentation (e.g., statutory declarations, WCB clearance letters)Prepare and submit LEMs (Labour, Equipment, and Materials reports) to clientsCollect and validate third-party invoices to support client billingsPrepare progress billings, invoices, and holdback releasesProcess electronic billing submissions and reconcile with client billing systemsCollaborate with clients to resolve payment issues and assist in payment collectionExtract and process equipment usage data for weekly/monthly reportsMonitor outside rental agreements and ensure compliance with contractsCoordinate with field teams and payroll to ensure timely time entry completionSupport project managers in identifying potential change ordersOversee subcontractor managementPrepare month-end journal entries

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar roleMust have a post-secondary business degreeMust have Experience within commercial construction, Telecom or a related industry is preferredMust have knowledge of JD Edwards or similar large ERP is preferredWorking knowledge of construction methodsFinancial acumen regarding equipment utilization, rates, equipment capital decisions, and profitability analysisWorking knowledge of construction accounting principlesWorking knowledge of construction software systemsStrong analytical skills and problem solvingExcellent verbal and written communication skillsStrong computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)

Work Conditions:

This position offers work from home options with the understanding that at times you may be required to attend the office or travel to the project site as business needs require
