BWXT is currently seeking a Project Accountant for its Lynchburg, VA location!
The Project Accountant will play a critical role in overseeing project accounting activities and providing in-depth financial analysis. This position requires a strong understanding of accounting standards, project cost management, forecasting, and the ability to perform a variety of financial analyses. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, able to balance detailed accounting work with broader financial analysis to support decision-making and ensure project success.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
Tracks and reports project costs, revenues, and performance metrics against forecasts.
Performs monthly closing activities, including journal entries.
Reconciles project-related accounts and resolves discrepancies promptly.
Facilitates monthly cost review meetings to communicate financial results to project managers and other departmental leaders.
Generates and reviews invoices for government contracts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with FAR and other regulations.
Collaborates with project managers to forecast financial performance and provides recommendations for improvement.
Supports internal and external audit requirements, as needed.
Conducts detailed financial analyses, including variance analysis, profitability, and cash flow.
Prepares short and long-term cash forecasts.
Supports the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Participates in the preparation and review of budgets, cost estimates, and pricing models for proposals and new contracts.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. At least three (3) years in a Finance or Accounting role.Must have experience with Excel with strong organizational and analytical skills.
Must be a self-starter with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship.
Pay: $64,000 - $101,000
The base salary range for this position in VA at the start of employment is expected to be between $64,000 and $101,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.
