Project Accountant/Project Finance Associate

We are seeking a highly qualified individual to serve as Project Accountant in our Kansas City Central Office. Recent graduates and career changers with strong analytical skills are encouraged to apply and will be trained for role specifics. The Project Accountant/Project Finance Associate will be responsible for day to day accounting activities related to the Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program and other grant funded initiatives. Qualifications
Qualified candidates will fulfill the following requirements: One year of experience in accounting, finance, or data analysis is preferred (including internship experience) Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), project finance, and rental subsidy programs is preferred, but willing to train candidates with strong data analysis and Microsoft Excel experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting software (Yardi) Strong administrative and data management skills Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook, and Adobe or similar Ability to work with multiple team members Ability to work with a sense of urgency Ability to monitor own work to ensure quality and accuracy Experience in handling sensitive, confidential information Excellent communication skills, both oral and written Excellent customer service skills Periodic overtime may be required Interest in advancing POAH Communities mission to utilize affordable rental housing as a platform for resident success Responsibilities Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Project Accountant will be asked to complete the following: Reconcile project related accounts, including calculating and analyzing program participant data Audit variances in participant accounts for all project locations Work with external project partners, such as FSS Financial Coaching partners, to address account related questions or resolve discrepancies in account accruals Process payables for assigned portfolio of programs and/or properties, including timely posting of invoices and issuing/distributing checks Coordinate with VP of Community Impact, with supervision of Accounting Manager, to ensure all parties are informed and up to date on key project issues or milestones Complete all required project reporting for HUD, project partners or other stakeholders Manage project related grants and complete periodic grant expense analysis Conduct basic data analysis of project outcomes utilizing program data Assist with preparation of annual property budgets; assist site staff in meeting respective budgets Conduct basic budget analysis, including compiling annual budget documents, reconciling discrepancies and comparing budget projections to actual Alert management of any irregularities, issues or opportunity for efficiencies Maintain knowledge of current accounting practices and legal updates As needed, complete bank reconciliations, capital reserve withdrawals, prepare work product and/or retrieve documentation for public auditing firms Other related tasks as assigned BENEFITS AT POAH COMMUNITIES At POAH Communities, we prioritize the well-being of our employees and their families.
