Job Title: Project Architect

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Project Architect to join our team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in architectural project management, with the ability to perform code reviews, comply with project budgets and schedules, and select, evaluate, and implement design components. This role involves evaluating existing conditions, formulating responses to challenges, and being responsible for significant aspects of larger projects and the entirety of smaller projects. Daily design and technical development, supervision, and production of construction documents through CAD and BIM, as well as coordination and quality assurance/quality control of consultants’ work, are key aspects of this position. Advanced knowledge of construction techniques and material selection, along with maintaining project files for multiple projects simultaneously, is essential.

ResponsibilitiesPerform code reviews and comply with project budgets and schedules.Select, evaluate, and implement design components used in projects.Evaluate existing conditions and formulate responses to challenges.Oversee significant aspects of larger projects and manage smaller projects.Handle daily design and technical development of projects.Supervise and produce Construction Documents through CAD and BIM.Coordinate and perform quality assurance/quality control of consultants’ work.Conduct construction administration for select projects.Maintain advanced knowledge of construction techniques and material selection.Keep project files updated for multiple projects simultaneously.Document and communicate specific project tasks to clients and team members.Comply with internal project budgets and team hours.Design and implement project scopes of work while adhering to schedules.Manage between 1 to 15 projects at a time.Essential SkillsBachelor's or Master’s degree from an accredited program.Licensed Architect.Minimum 10-12 years of experience in Education and/or Public/State Projects.Proficiency in Revit is a must, proficiency in AutoCAD.Technical experience in all phases of design, documentation, detailing, and construction.Experience in training and mentoring junior designers.Familiarity with public works and educational architecture.Experience with design development, schematic design, and project managementAbility to work as part of a team and lead select projects.Experience participating in prospective client interviews.Capability to observe, identify, and communicate potential future projects to leadership.Availability to visit construction sites once a week depending on the project.Work Environment

The firm consists of 25 people, including 4 principals, 3 of whom are active. The office is located in Somerville, NJ, and offers a work-hard, play-hard environment with team outings, bagel Fridays, happy hours, and more. The day-to-day can be fast-paced and hectic at times. The role includes working on a fair amount of new construction projects for schools and office buildings that require steel frame construction. The position requires knowledge of building codes, with public sector experience being a plus due to bidding and contractor requirements. After 90 days, a hybrid schedule is available, along with half-day Fridays, access and collaboration with other architects on all project aspects, support and payment for licensing exams, AXP credits towards licensure, opportunities for advancement, bonuses based on company performance and project completions, family nights, and community involvement.
