The University of Chicago Press Distribution Center (CDC) is a state-of-the-art distribution and fulfillment operation, providing a full range of services to the University of Chicago Press and scholarly publishers worldwide. Located in the Historic Pullman District near 110th Langley, the CDC is conveniently located near the Metra and the Bishop Ford Freeway. The facility is two hundred seventy-three thousand square feet, housing nearly twelve million books in inventory, and more than nineteen thousand units shipped daily. Job Information

Job Summary:

We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Warehouse Inventory and Order Support Specialist to join our team. This role will involve overseeing inventory accuracy, assisting with order fulfillment, and helping to resolve stock and shipping issues. The ideal candidate will be able to handle multiple tasks efficiently, troubleshoot problems, and ensure smooth operations in the warehouse.

Responsibilities:

Assist the team in locating and resolving missing stock (zero cartons, PODs).

Search, update, and correct bin locations as necessary, ensuring items are properly tracked and labeled.

Address bin issues by searching for inventory discrepancies and updating bin locations and barcodes.

Adjust inventory levels in the system to reflect accurate stock.

Troubleshoot any order issues or challenges pickers encounter during the picking and packing process.

Provide support to packers and drivers as needed.

Sort orders on Monday nights or on days when the designated team member is off.

Help clear the damaged cart by assessing and addressing damaged inventory.Confirm packed orders by auditing the packing reports on a weekly basis.

Train line pickers and single pickers as needed to ensure efficiency and accuracy.

Monitor the Freeze Report received on Thursdays and address any issues or discrepancies.

Help route key customer truck freight and ensure timely and accurate fulfillment.

Order inventory from the warehouse across the street when needed.

Assist with second-level inquiries and stock issues by sending relevant information to the Inventory team, particularly if two titles are in the same location.

Provide backup support to the shipping team as needed, especially during peak times or when required.

Order warehouse packing materials and supplies.

Competencies:

Strong attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies in inventory.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with different teams in the warehouse.

Problem-solve and provide solutions to resolve order and stock issues.

Multitask in a fast-paced environment preferred.

Additional Responsibilities

Education, Experience, or Certifications:

Education:

High school diploma or GED required.

Experience:

Background with warehouse systems and inventory tracking is helpful.Prior experience in a warehouse or shipping environment is a plus.Flexibility to assist with different warehouse tasks as needed.

Certifications:

Forklift certification preferred.

Technical Knowledge or Skills:

Excel skills a plus.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

Must be able to work in a fast-paced warehouse environment.Occasional lifting and moving of inventory items may be required.Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Pay Range:

$19.65 - $28.76 per hour.
