Your Opportunity

Stantec is currently seeking a Major Projects - Project Controls Specialist to join our Infrastructure team. The Major Projects - Project Controls Specialist will work with the Commercial Manager and Project Team to develop, implement, and execute project controls on major alternative project delivery contracts.

 This will be a diversified project management position within Stantec that requires a detail oriented individual. The Project Controls Specialist is a key member of the Project Support Team responsible for collaborating with Project Managers and project teams to provide support for the successful execution of projects through conformance to Stantec’s Frameworks, corporate policies, and client requirements and standards.

Your Key Responsibilities

Major Projects are defined as projects that have potential for significant financial and/or reputation impacts to Stantec and include Alternate Project Delivery (APD) projects (Design Build, Progressive Design Build, Construction Manager at Risk, Public Private Partnership, Engineering, Procurement and Construction, Integrated Project Delivery and Alliances).  They also include Owners assignments (Owners Engineer, Technical Advisor); Project/Program Management Joint Venture projects, when Stantec is a Joint Venture member or where Stantec assumes joint and several liability with others; provision of new services, or projects outside the normal course of Stantec Business Risk.

As Major Projects Project Controls Specialist, you will participate throughout all phases of APD projects including, pursuit, delivery, and close out, including the following:

Project Controls requires providing accurate commitment and expenditure information, performance data, timely cost forecasts, and forward-looking advice to Project Management to support achievement of budget and schedule objectives, health and safety, and audit requirements. Project Controls can best achieve these objectives by: Prepare project set up forms, assist with Project Implementation Plans, health and safety forms, initial resource planning, deliverables added to calendar Actively participate in development and tracking of project schedules Coordinate with various shared services groups including legal, accounting, insurance, IT and procurement Keep the project manager informed of barriers to maintaining the budget and schedule Prepare, update, and maintain cash flow, and earned value studies. Understand and optimize Project Controls processes and system(s) Provide guidance to project managers on matters relating to project controls. Prepare accurate and timely project reports. Review draft invoices for accuracy, completeness and compliance with client requirements prior to project manager approval. Coordinate with PM and/or client for collection of overdue invoices Attend meetings and take meeting minutes if requested Maintain deliverables lists, logs and action item lists in accordance with project requirements Assist project manager in preparing for audits Follow up with project team as directed by commercial manager Review proposals and budget estimates for accuracy and completeness. Ability to present technical information to executive level staff. Your Capabilities and Credentials Knowledge in project control fundamentals with analytical skills and understanding in financial analysis, schedule analysis, modeling, and budgeting methodologies. Experience with MS Office including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access Prior experience working in engineering or construction field required Prior work in project controls / project assistant role is a plus Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and assignments Excellent written and verbal communications and interpersonal skills. Detail-oriented and organized, with exceptional prioritization skills on a consistent basis. Ability to travel as required for project assignments. Valid driver’s license is required. Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or  Business required Minimum of 3 years of engineering and project controls experience. Experience with Alternative Project Delivery, preferred Previous experience in performing project controls functions.

Additional Information Salary Range(s): Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s): Location Description: Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in CA (SF Area includes SF, SJS & WLC) Min Pay Range: CA Other Areas $35.38 Max Pay Range: CA Other Areas $51.30 Note: The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
