HDR is looking for a Project Designer to join our architectural design practice in Arlington, Virginia.This position will focus on the design and execution of our diverse projects while fostering a strong design culture insupport of HDR’s larger design excellence goals. Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Project Designer, we'll count on you to:

Take responsibility for design of architectural projects under the direction of the Design Principal and in close collaboration with the project teamIndependently develop alternative concepts and key components of complex projectsDevelop materials and participate in client presentations, internal critiques, and reviews with various client stakeholders for project approvalsUnderstand code and cost implications of design decisions to ensure that design proposals are viable and compliant with project goalsIndependently coordinate design with the multidiscipline project team through multiple phases of a projectConduct internal design/work sessions in conjunction with Design Principal and Project Manager, coordinating with work of other disciplinesCoordinate workload of team members through multiple phases to complete design deliverables on scheduleReview architectural documents for areas of design conflict with the Project Architect and all other disciplinesWrite and edit architectural specifications for key design materials and systems, working directly with Project Architect and Project ManagerIncorporate agreed-upon changes into project documentsProvide construction contract administration assistance as needed to maintain design intent through constructionDirect the activities of other junior designers and mentor other staff members as neededContribute to design culture of studioPerform other duties as needed

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Architecture or closely related fieldMinimum of 5 years of experienceRegistered ArchitectExperience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project Schedule)Excellent written and communication skillsExcellent analytical and problem-solving skillsProficient in use of Autodesk Revit and familiarity with related tools and processDemonstrated graphic presentation skillsExperience in preparation and layout of architectural contract documents and specificationsAttitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in ArchitectureExperience in the areas of healthcare, educational, civic, science and research facilitiesInterest in sustainable design/LEED strongly desiredKnowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Rhino, Grasshopper, SketchUp, and other appropriate modeling and graphics programsPreference given to local candidates
