The Renewable Project Development Manager is responsible for supporting the development of large renewable energy projects in different stages of development through commercial operation, in support of NYPA’s strategies and New York State targets, primarily focused on utility scale solar and energy storage.
The Project Development Manager will identify opportunities and technical solutions, review project applications and maintain regulatory compliance. Responsibilities include evaluating proposals, working closely with vendors, and internal & external stakeholder engagement. The PDM will oversee the development of feasibility studies, understand financial and technical modeling for renewable energy systems, manage and engage stakeholders, and make recommendations.
The PDM should have a strong understanding of the Renewable Project Development Process, support interconnection and permitting efforts. Experience within the public sector and/or serving public sector/governmental clients is a plus. Experience with CRM software a plus (Monday.com, Asana, Microsoft Dynamics, Salesforce, etc.) Candidates with technical or engineering education and/or experience will be preferred.

Responsibilities Perform financial, economic, and technical analysis to support the assessment of business opportunities. Management of projects through development and implementation Co-author business cases for new opportunities including the commercial model, alignment with policy, and identification of key risks Prepare presentations for various audiences including senior management proposing business opportunities and providing updates on projects in progress Support senior Origination and Business Development management in development and negotiations on new opportunities Contribute to interdisciplinary project teams to perform due diligence and/or develop new business opportunities Coordinate with and manage cross functional teams consisting of various disciplines for projects Liaise with external parties including developers, NYISO, NYSERDA, and regulatory agencies, as needed Prepare monthly reports on projects and stakeholder activities Participate in industry events, trainings, and conferences as needed. Support renewable energy and storage project development planning and production cost modeling studies to inform business opportunities Act as a liaison between Renewables and both internal and external stakeholders in the development and execution of projects Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Understanding of business, financial and technical concepts Analytical abilities to think through complex problems Ability to support senior team members in renewable energy and storage project development from project origination to siting (physical and regulatory), preparation of financial estimates, and assisting in appropriate regulatory filings. Excellent writing skills with ability to summarize analysis Solid verbal communication skills including oral presentation Ability to work independently on assignments, prioritize tasks, and manage deadlines Organization skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with colleagues and external organizations from various disciplines and cultural backgrounds Knowledge and understanding of the New York renewables market and the broader energy industry Familiarity with New York’s clean energy goals, including the Clean Energy Standard, the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA), and the Accelerated Renewable Energy Growth and Community Benefit Act. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications including Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.Education, Experience and Certifications Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or technical field preferred. Minimum 4 years of related experience in the energy industry preferred. Physical Requirements Approximately 20% travel within NY State. Valid driver’s license required. Ability to attend meetings/events outside of normal business hours.
