Job Description
TESP (Teledyne Electronic Safety Products) designs, develops, qualifies, and manufactures a variety of small, highly reliable products, which in many cases are intended to operate explosive devices such as EEDs (Electro-Explosive Devices), EBWs (Exploding Bridge Wires), EFIs (Exploding Foil Initiators), ESADs (Electronics Safety and Arm devices) and other similar devices. Product applications include Aircrew Safety, Launch and Tactical Vehicles, and Energetic Devices.
The Electronic System Design Engineer designs, develops, implements, tests, and debugs electronic systems for time critical aerospace applications. Engages and works closely with customers and internal resources to understand and document system requirements and design and develop robust solutions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Work with a multi-faceted team of Software/Mechanical engineers and Program Managers to analyze and develop robust solutions that fulfill customer and program requirements.
Be the primary designer and developer for all electrical/electronic aspects of the system design.
Ensure that the solution design meets regulatory requirements and qualification criteria and that program documentary obligations are created and distributed in a timely manner.
Be a subject matter expert and liaise with external program peers to ensure seamless system integration.
Provide product lifecycle support for testing, deployment, and updates.
Work with minimal supervision and be proactive with providing timely status updates and reports to program management.
Support proposal preparation, customer presentations and program milestone meetings.
Qualifications:
Requires a bachelor’s degree in Electronics/Systems engineering, or related fields.
5-10 years of directly related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Good analytical skills
Good oral and written communication skills.
Be able to use MS suite of programs
Experience with electrical development and qualification testing.
PC Windows based applications like MS Outlook, MS Office, etc.
To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:
The applicant shall have a thorough understanding of formal design process of embedded system development from the concept, design, planning, requirements, description, and report generation.
Thorough understanding of embedded MCU (micro controller unit) based circuit design and architecture, analog and digital circuit design, and serial and network communication standards.
The applicant should be familiar with and have prior experience with ground-up system designs using ARM based 16/32/64-bit MCU architectures from NXP, Atmel, Microchip, Texas Instruments etc.
The applicant should be familiar with serial and network-based protocols.
The applicant must have previous design experience in PCB (Printed Circuit Board design), schematic and layout using EDA (electronic design automation) tools such as Altium and Orcad.
Familiarity with SPICE circuit simulation tools.
Familiarity with using software configuration and change management tools.
Hardware design expertise to support digital logic design incorporating microcontrollers and/or programmable arrays such as FPGAs (field programmable gate arrays), analog circuitry to support environmental sensors such as pressure, temperature, and acceleration, plus voltage regulation.
The applicant should also be familiar with laboratory design and test equipment such as Oscilloscopes, Counters, Data Acquisition equipment, power supplies, logic analyzers, etc.
