Project Engineer

The devices we make at SEL are embedded in the power grid. They prevent blackouts. They make outages safer and shorter in duration; they add cybersecurity, automation, and communication. They use cutting-edge technologies and operate at speeds that push other pieces of the grid to go faster.

Our team in Milan is growing and we are looking for experienced Project Engineers with a focus in Automation or Project Management for transmission/distribution utility projects and customers.

As an Project Engineer, a typical day might include the following:  

Designing automation solutions for customers

Commissioning projects in the field 

Extensive networking and programming

Development of relay/controller settings

Preparation of functional design documentation

Working as a technical lead alongside Project Managers and other Engineers from other focus areas  

This job might be for you if: 

You have a degree in Electrical Engineering or related field that has equipped you with strong foundational knowledge

You have at least 5 years of experience working with communication protocols such as IEC-61850, DNP, and Modbus  

You understand and have experience with SCADA systems

You have power system/substation automation experience  

You are willing to travel up to 50% (more typically 25%)

You are fluent in Italian and English (other European languages are preferred)

As a Project Manager, a typical day might include the following:  

Work with customers to understand their needs and respond with solutions through new proposal development when within SEL Engineering Services’ competencies.

Complete and implement assigned work within agreed upon scope, schedule and budget to a high level of quality and safety.

Prepare and maintain detailed scoping, schedule, and budgeting documents.

Use project performance metrics to forecast actual project performance and forecasting to compare against baselines through a regular reporting regimen.

Identify, measure and improve project and procedural deficiencies.

This job might be for you if: 

Have a history of managing or supporting projects through their entire lifecycle, from bid to close-out

Enjoy new, meaningful challenges and overcoming real world limitations to deliver a quoted scope of work for the budget & schedule promised and to the quality your customers expect

Understand that when deviations arise, how to exercise change management, when appropriate, to apply a structured process and set of tools to achieve the desired project results

Know how to work with scheduling software to graphically represent the critical path to completion and how to use that data to advise your stakeholders

Understand how to monitor and control project performance metrics and how compile that data into regular stakeholder reports

You are willing to travel up to 25%

You are fluent in Italian and English (other European languages are preferred)

This position is located in our Milan, Italy office near the Rogoredo station with easy access for bus, metro, and train commuting.
