Project Engineer

Description

This position's primary responsibility will be associated with leading large capital projects including steps such as evaluation, benefit-cost analysis, budgeting, writing specifications, initiating contracts, tracking costs, ordering equipment, quality assurance of installations, and updating procedures & drawings. Candidates must be willing to accept challenging projects that incorporate multi-discipline work (civil, electrical, and mechanical). Candidates should possess interpersonal skills to work with plant personnel, The Client, vendors, and a wide range of contractors to accomplish projects. The position will require sufficient technical/engineering knowledge to assist system owners in their daily responsibility. This position will involve coordination of projects during unit outages.

Job Responsibilities

•\tProvide outage/project management, project budget management, long term maintenance strategies and technical support to the plant

•\tMonitor plant performance and make recommendations to improve heat rate

•\tUtilize computer business tools to develop and justify budgets, write work orders, order material, develop project schedules, and monitor equipment.

•\tInitiate, troubleshoot and review root cause analyses for system equipment failures

•\tWork with Southern Company Services, OEM's and system owners at other plants to stay current of any upgrades or concerns that affect the plant and communicate these needs to plant management, corporate management, and peer groups.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

•\tCritical knowledge of fossil power plant cycles and an ability to diagnose problems.

•\tGood oral/written communication skills and ability to work effectively with varied individuals (craft personnel, support staff, supervisory staff, and management) is a must

•\tStrong organizational, administrative, time management, project management, facilitation and analytical skills are required

•\tSelf-motivation and demonstrated initiative is crucial for this position

Other Requirements

•\tMust be physically capable of working in a industrial plant environment.

•\tMust be available to work nights, weekends and/or holidays as needed

•\tMay require some extended hours

Education Requirements

•\tB.S. in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is required

•\tB.S. in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or Civil Engineering degree preferred

•\tM.S. in Business or Engineering is a plus

•\tProfessional Engineering registration is a plus

Experience Requirements

•\tPreferred 3 to 5 years of mechanical, chemical, civil, electrical with the majority in coal fired power plants or related industrial experience

•\tIndustrial experience preferred covers design, maintenance and/or operation of the following types of equipment: pumps, motors, air/motor operated valves, manual valves, fans, condensers, boilers and turbines

•\tAdditional preferences included experience managing multi-disciplined projects from concept to close-out including proper costs estimating and tracking is desired.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $60.00/hr.
