Position Summary:
ADM is seeking a Project Engineer to lead the management of capital projects to drive growth and improve operations throughout the Specialty Ingredients division. The Project Engineer will oversee the design and implementation of capital projects as required to meet the needs of the growing Nutrition business. This includes identifying/evaluating project opportunities, requesting authorization for projects, as well as managing a broad range of responsibilities for complex capital projects thru the project phases of Identification, Definition, Design, Execution, and Evaluation. As a member of the plant team, this colleague will have the opportunity to utilize engineering skills to improve operations including reliability, yields, and cost reductions throughout all the North American Specialty Ingredient locations.
Job Responsibilities:Ensure stewardship of viable capital projects from inception to commissioningEffective management of personnel and resources to balance schedules, budgets, and scope/quality of projectsProvide oversight of equipment and contractor personnel during the course of projects by working in the field on a daily basisWritten and verbal communication of project activities and key metrics shall be provided to managers and other stakeholdersDevelop requests for proposals, equipment sizing, equipment utility lists, detail P&ID’s, and other front end engineering tasksProactively participate in safety, environmental, quality, and production processes in order to ensure compliance with all company policies and proceduresAssist in developing operating procedures and training production personnel on unit operations for start-upMaintain an awareness of industry trends and investigate the means by which projects can be improved, implemented, and managed - this includes capturing lessons learned and developing best practices ensuring compliance with all relevant engineering standards and internal proceduresDevelop colleagues through training, technical support, and mentoring opportunities. Job Requirements:Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or related disciplineMinimum 3 years in construction area or production are at vegetable oil / proteins extraction plants experience, PSM experience a plusMust be able to apply engineering competencies to practical real world situationsColleague will design processing systems and equipment required for the production of food grade productsGeneral knowledge of codes, relevant standards, and materials/metallurgy related to processing equipmentKnowledge of industrial chemical and food production plant processes and related systems such as: pressure vessels, reactors, distillation, spray drying, piping, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, controls, dry powder technologies, utilities, packaging, and other unit operations is desiredStrong leadership, management, and interpersonal skills are necessary to be a valued colleague in the team. Interpersonal skills employed include handling conflict, motivating personnel, as well as instructing/training/mentoring less experienced engineers. The candidate must be able to effectively interact with multiple employees and managers throughout multiple locations.The candidate must be able to continuously improve utilizing independent judgment to solve problems and have excellent organizational skills in order to effectively handle multiple ongoing tasks.Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and manage personnel, budgets, schedules, and other resources.Excellent communication skills – both oral and detailed written are needed to be effective in this position.General knowledge of software systems such as PI, Maximo, Microsoft Office applications (Project, Excel, Word, and SharePoint), and AutoCAD. Physical Demands:Employee will work in a plant environment and is expected to initiate work based on general instructions from management.The physical requirements of the job requires ability to climb stairs, lift 50 pounds, prolonged periods of standing and sitting, computer work, working in confined spaces and from heights, bending, kneeling, working adjusted hours, and working as instructed.Prompt attendance is a must.Employees working at the Specialty Ingredient locations are [or may be] exposed to various potential chemical and food allergens due to the nature of our business and the requirements of the job.
