The Project Engineer’s primary responsibilities encompass the management of simple to moderately complex geotechnical engineering projects. The Project Engineer shall support the firm’s objectives of meeting our clients’ expectations in a timely manner while achieving the Corporation’s financial objectives. The Project Engineer shall support business activities required to grow and effectively conduct the firm’s geotechnical engineering business in the Gulf Coast marketplace. The Project Engineer must possess excellent communicating, writing, and interpersonal skills in dealing with fellow employees, subcontractors, subconsultants, clients, and the general public. Secondary responsibilities will involve supporting the Construction Materials Testing Services as required. Other responsibilities include:
Be responsible for the successful execution of small to moderately complex geotechnical engineering projects. Serve as the “Geotechnical Engineer-of-record” on simple projects.Manage small to medium size projects from start to completion. This may include development of scope and fee, proposal preparation, developing and managing field exploration and laboratory testing programs, geotechnical analysis of moderately complex engineering problems, preparation of deliverables, participation in project/client meetings, visiting project sites, invoicing, and assisting with collection.Direct junior staff members to complete geotechnical engineering services. Assign tasks to the project team, monitor progress, and check the accuracy of completed work. Review the work of junior staff and assist with training and mentoring of junior engineers.Prepare proposals for simple to medium large geotechnical engineering projects. This will include review of available literature, development of site exploration and testing programs, contacting vendors and subconsultants, estimating fees and schedule.Oversee field operations, including utility clearance, subconsultant, driller, and traffic control coordination, and logging activities. Review field boring logs and provide feedback to the loggers.Review laboratory test results.Compile and analyze the field data and laboratory test results. Model problems, perform analysis, and develop solutions. Perform geotechnical engineering analysis, develop recommendation, and prepare accurate reports.Review the labor and other expenses associated with the projects. Prepare and submit accurate invoices regularly and in a timely manner. Contact and follow up with clients on invoicing and status of payment.Assist with the preparation of Statements of Qualifications and support the business development activities. Actively participate in professional organizations as determined by the Supervisor.Adhere and support the firm’s safety policies. Participate and support the implementation of the firm's Standard Operating Procedures and quality management practices.Immediately notify the Supervisor of all potential disputes that may lead to legal claims or litigation and provide support to settle disputes or defend against litigation. Perform other duties as assigned.Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited school is required. Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis on Geotechnical Engineering from an accredited college or university is preferred.At least 4 years of experience in a relevant field. Management of medium size engineering projects required.Must possess Professional Engineer’s (PE) license in the State of Texas. If the P.E. licenses is obtained from a different state, P.E. license should be obtained in the State of Texas within six months of hiring.Possess a current valid state-issued driver's license and meet the company's auto insurability requirements.Must have excellent communication skills to interact with clients and staff successfully, having clarity and understanding in order to prevent errors. This includes being able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. Organizational skills are important in this role to utilize company resources efficiently and effectively. Advanced knowledge of computer operations including Microsoft Office and other engineering programs..

This position may require protracted or irregular hours. Flexibility to work irregular hours is necessary due to client needs. Work responsibilities require out of town/overnight travel to Raba Kistner office, client offices, and project locations.
