The purpose of the Project Engineer position is to provide engineering support for the development, fabrication, assembly, and testing of hardware for use on exploration missions (e.g. Orion) as well as the International Space Station (ISS). This position is in support of the Human Health and Performance Contract (HHPC) at NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC).
Successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the successful execution of projects and delivery of hardware to NASA/JSC in support of exploration missions (e.g. Orion) and the ISS. Candidate will develop key skills needed for requirements development and verification, parts identification, hardware development, testing, certification/delivery, and sustaining. This position will require the candidate to become well versed in the quality process for the development and sustainment of controlled hardware, including the writing of Task Performance Sheet and disposition of Discrepancy Reports. Candidate will be responsible for reviewing and understanding engineering drawings on a daily basis as well as overseeing and participating in hands on development activities. Effective communication will be a critical skill in working with the project, other project engineers, technical support staff, and quality engineering personnel. This position will require the candidate to multitask in an extremely busy and challenging environment while keeping up with a volatile delivery schedule.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Responsible for compliance with Safety, Health and Environmental plan; must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all of the Company’s safety policies and rules and must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel
• Responsible for compliance with the Quality Assurance Plan, policies and procedures
• Responsible for completing all assigned training
• Maintain Safety records and certifications
• Use project requirement documents and verification documents to develop assembly plans, test strategies/planning and produce test plans, test set-ups and procedures
• Complete functional development, certification, acceptance, and interface testing of the hardware during the different stages of the project life cycles
• Correlate test results and complete data analysis as required in a report format
• Determine how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes and incorporating the results into system specifications
• Process hardware at Johnson Space Center
• Assume ownership of all technical considerations for key elements of hardware
• Interface with purchasing, quality, logistics, other HHPC stakeholders, and NASA stakeholders
• Writing and dispositioning Task Performance Sheets and Discrepancy Reports
• Read, understand, and interpret engineering drawings
• Complete functional, development, certification, acceptance, and interface testing
• Develop controlled paperwork
• Disposition non-compliant hardware
• Perform troubleshooting on both ground and in-flight systems
• Develop and maintain sustaining engineering plans
• Understand and execute process and procedures
• Will perform other duties and assignments as required
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
REQUIRED:
• BS in Engineering from an accredited university with 0-2 years of related experience
DESIRED:
• BS in Biomedical or Aerospace Engineering
• Prior work at NASA/JSC processing, developing, certifying, and sustaining flight hardware
• Experience with configuration and data management processes and submitting Change Requests
SKILLS/TRAINING:
REQUIRED:
• Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing (MS Office tools)
• Able to work effectively with minimal supervision
• Able to work in a team environment
• Able to develop and clearly communicate information to technical forums
• Able to troubleshoot hardware and perform root cause analysis
DESIRED:
• Proficiency with NASA/JSC tools: MIDAS, CDS, QARC, EDMS, ELABEL, EDS, ISS PART, EDRS/EDCC
