Project Leader for Next Generation ISR
Description Are you passionate about accelerating innovation and driving novel solutions to complex challenges? Are you interested in collaborating across APL to advance sensor processing capabilities, develop mission management systems, and leverage artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) capabilities for Department of Defense Special Operations? We are seeking a Project Leader for Next-Generation Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) projects in the Special Operations Mission Area. The Project Leader will work closely with ISR Program Managers, the Imaging Systems Group, and across the Special Operations Mission Area to realize and execute a diverse portfolio of projects focused on mission-oriented research and development. Your primary responsibility will be to translate sponsor requirements into innovative solutions, and work with technical staff to devise project plans required to bring the solutions to a reality. Mentor Project Managers and Technical Leads by providing project guidance, establishing/overseeing technical direction, and assigning responsibilities. Review and finalize program deliverables to ensure they meet sponsor needs. Conduct regular technical reviews and identify areas of risk and mitigation in accordance with project requirements. Review and approve project-generated work products. You will partner with Program Managers to direct and oversee a multi-disciplinary project portfolio. Develop and foster trusted relationships with sponsor representatives (e.g., technical leaders, contracts personnel). Directly communicate progress and key findings to sponsors and the broader stakeholder community via presentations, reports, and publications. You will work proactively and collaboratively with Imaging Systems Group leadership to ensure adequate staffing, capital, and facility resources are in place to properly execute project-related tasks. Develop and monitor program plans and budgets. You will contribute to conceptualization and pursuit of new research initiatives, vision, and strategy to support ISR, the SOMA Envisioned Futures, and other initiatives. Possess a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Engineering field. Have 5 years of relevant experience in applied research. Have 5 years of experience working with ISR systems. Are able to articulate a compelling vision for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance to enable the Department of Defense and a plan focusing resources to achieve that vision. Are a proven problem solver with ability to interact with all levels of staff and management including senior leadership of government agencies, partner organizations, and academic institutions. Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Have prior project management experience. Are able to travel to attend program reviews, technical symposia, and to meet with current or prospective sponsors and users. Currently possess an active Top Secret clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information.
