The Project Manager, Integrated Storytelling and Planning (PH) coordinates the development and implementation of ambitious storytelling across the full spectrum of National Geographic’s core topic areas helping to ensure best-in-class execution on all platforms, from television to digital, social, magazines, books, consumer products, and travel.

This role reports to the Director of Integrated Planning, with a significant focus on coordinating all project management activities across all the teams involved in developing our Nat Geo’s amazing stories: content development, Editorial, Creative, Marketing Strategy, Paid Media, Ad Sales, Social, and others. This role will work on some of the highest priority projects within the Integrated Storytelling framework, with visibility and impact at the executive level. On occasion, this role will also play a lead role in designing and implementing new workflows, implementing new tools, and setting up new processes as needed to support the goals of Integrated Storytelling.

Candidates must be able to lead highly matrixed, cross-functional teams, streamline processes, and foster collaboration. This role is responsible for implementing the methods and models for tracking a project's steps and dependencies, including negotiating timelines and deliverables with colleagues in higher positions. This person also will be accountable for reporting the progress of projects to senior leadership.

Candidates must have professional presence and experience in leading by influence rather than control. They will need the emotional intelligence to obtain results from diverse stakeholders that do not report directly to Nat Geo Content team.

Responsibilities:

Lead the coordination of multiple projects simultaneously across lines of business, including stakeholder management, establishing launch timelines, tracking the development of each project, identifying, and solving dependencies, and managing the execution of deliverables. 

Be responsible for the collecting, archiving and distribution of project artifacts.

Track progress throughout the duration of a project with a mindfulness toward dependencies.

Regularly communicate project status, progress, and outcomes to key stakeholders, providing timely updates and managing expectations.  

Lead the coordination of the development of Editorial stories that align with

Nat Geo’s priorities, including text, photo, video, immersive, mapping, and other deliverables.

Design and implement new workflows, tools, or processes to support the function of Integrated Storytelling

Contribute to the development and management of a content calendar and stakeholder-facing records for all Nat Geo content, across platforms, in alignment with Content Development, Editorial, Marketing, Brand, and Disney Tentpole priorities.

Basic Qualifications:

Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in Project Management or Program Management or a similar role in entertainment, media, or digital content organizations.

Experience collaborating with a large and varied group of cross-functional teams and partners to tackle ambiguous problems and make forward progress.

Experience presenting to and influencing senior management.

Proficiency in project management tools, content management systems, and analytics platforms.

Strong process orientation with solid organizational and multi-tasking skills.

Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical individuals.

Excellent organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills with an eye for detail.

Must live within a commutable distance to our DC office1145 17th St NW.PH role is onsite 4+days a week.  

Strong ability to multi-task and easily context-switch in a fast-paced and ever-evolving organization with multiple work streams and projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

PMP Certification.

Experience or a deep understanding of the story development process.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Communications/Journalism/Media, or a related field.

The hiring range for this position in Washington D.C. is $94,200 to $126,200 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
