Purpose Execute assigned waterfront and heavy industrial projects in a timely manner within the allocated budget through administration, technical and management techniques. Responsibilities Leadership and Direction Receive broad guidance from senior-level management relating to overall key objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters and general parameters for execution. Manage people and processes to ensure effective execution. Review work produced by staff for quality assurance. Work closely with the Branch Manager or Business Unit leader to manage an engineering team in the office. Responsible for management of daily plan production of team, schedule, budget, quality control/assurance, collections, and opportunities. At the Operational and Company Level Assist with the marketing of the firm’s capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships with existing clients. Assist in developing processes and provide input on achieving company and office operational excellence while growing region and office. Coordinate with other internal departments to meet project requirements. Do the Work Work with and lead a group of talented engineers and designers in waterfront and heavy industrial structural projects, including assigning and reviewing work, finalizing scope, preparing bid summaries, project budgets and cost estimates. Maintain up to date knowledge of the latest AISC, ACI, ASCE and AWS codes and standards. Maintain up to date knowledge of STAAD Pro or equivalent structural analysis tool, and field construction operations to develop practical designs. Direct and perform field structural investigations including underwater inspections with assistance from divers and develop technical reports. With assistance of field engineers, provide engineering support and construction monitoring services. Prepare and direct preparation of designs, specification, plans, estimates and reports for projects. Review job cost sheets and prepare monthly billings. Ensure assigned projects stay within budget allocation. Responsible for the monitoring and management of work-in-process, billings, and outstanding accounts receivable collection efforts. Maintain healthy client relationships and possess solid operational insight for driving projects and executing deliverables. Maintain close relationships with clients to resolve all project questions including technical requirements, completion requirements and billing inquiries. Assist with marketing presentations and attend marketing meetings. Assist team leader in securing repeat business from existing clients and identifying new clients. Liaise with clients and agencies, subcontractors, and design teams on projects. Perform daily review of project changes, pending or anticipated alterations to the contract, additional work requests, and all other factors, which may significantly affect staffing requirements or budget. Provide technical assistance in the resolution of design and construction issues including detailed design work, detailed review of design computations done by others, general coordination of design and construction projects, and guiding field engineers during construction. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering required. Master's degree in civil engineering with emphasis on structural and geotechnical engineering coursework preferred. Ten or more (10+) years of industry experience required. Experience in waterfront, heavy industrial, deep foundation, or bridge design is preferred. Strong structural design background is required. P.E. certification is required. Working knowledge of ASCE, AISC, ACI, AWS, and other relevant marine, port, and coastal construction and structural design codes, standards, regulations, and compliance practices required. Strong understanding of computer applications and engineering design software such as STAAD Pro, Revit, AutoCAD, or equivalent structural analysis tool as well as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook). Valid state driver's license and ability to successfully complete motor vehicle records check OR a reliable form of transportation to/from office and/or project site preferred. Successful completion of background check, safety training, non-DOT pre-employment and random post-employment drug screening. Physical Demands and Working Environment Primarily indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic. Mobility around an office environment. Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Frequent local travel to and/or work in an outdoor environment which may include being on watercraft, adverse weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards. Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business. Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds. Occasional pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds.
