Project Manager, Stormwater

DESCRIPTION
This is an exciting opportunity to join Michael Baker's growing Water Practice in Virginia Beach and engage in a variety of stormwater projects including a well-established flood mitigation program and other projects throughout Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic. This position includes working with a long-term and well-established client on ground-breaking improvements in the Chesapeake Bay watershed and with national Water Practice leadership in numerous Michael Baker International offices across the United States. Responsibilities include a wide array of activities including overall program/project management assistance, client engagement, engineering design and management, design review and oversight, preparation of technical reports, sub-consultant coordination, internal team coordination, budget and schedule adherence, construction management assistance, and stakeholder involvement.

This position is located in Virginia Beach, Virginia with limited travel to the project sites and to other Michael Baker offices. There may be opportunities to work remotely, however, it is preferable that the successful candidate be within commuting distance of the Virginia Beach office to attend local client and team meetings.


The candidate who fills this position will be called upon to:

Support the stormwater group in planning, design, and executing projects/programs.  Work closely with the Program Manager and other Project Managers and assist in overall management, coordination, and execution of programs, individual projects, and other work. Manage, coordinate, and track multiple projects simultaneously to ensure overall continuity, standardization, and cohesiveness. Produce materials and exhibits that easily relay technical or Project/Program information to the client. Conduct coordination meetings as needed internally, with the Client, and/or other stakeholders.  Direct and manage tasks and/or other staff and sub-consultants on efficient project execution including adherence to project scopes, budgets, and schedules to ensure Baker project management and quality standards are maintained. Assist in developing detailed scopes of work and associated cost estimates, staffing requirements, and schedule. Assist with public engagement efforts, such as open house meetings, and development of materials to support public involvement such as presentations and brochures. Lead, provide technical support to and/or oversee staff on projects in the areas of stormwater design and management, general civil engineering, sediment and erosion control, best management practices, compliance with state and federal environmental requirements and sustainability. Provide oversight and/or peer review of engineering reports and technical memoranda, design calculations, drawings, and specifications for large-capacity stormwater pump stations, tide gates, conveyance systems, detention basins/storage facilities, public utility replacements, etc. Coordinate with the state and federal regulatory agencies on requirements and permit adherence. Develop and/or review report narratives, tables, exhibits, and graphics summarizing results of peer reviews, studies, or analyses for a variety of different audiences. Assist with overall construction management/construction phase services for execution of projects.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Possess a minimum of a bachelor's degree with a focus on civil/ municipal /water resources and/or environmental engineering - Master's degree is a plus. Possess a Virginia Professional Engineering license (or be able to obtain a reciprocal Virginia P.E. license immediately). Have a demonstrated history of project/program management, technical leadership, and independent success. Be an energetic, motivated, organized, team player with excellent writing and verbal communication skills. Have 10 to15+ years of practical experience in civil engineering with a focus in stormwater and/or infrastructure improvement. Experience in project/program management to include: Successful contribution on technical projects within multidisciplinary teams. Oversight of staff and/or subcontractors as part of managing tasks or projects to ensure adherence to schedule and budget restrictions. Client coordination. Design-Build and/or Progressive Design-Build experience a plus. Design of storm drain systems in coastal areas and/or areas that are tidally influenced. Design/management of public utilities and other stormwater facilities. Experience with flood control measures and systems, such as tide gates, pump stations, and flood barriers a plus.  Familiarity with Stormwater Quality Requirements and Management Plans.

The approximate compensation range for this position is $120k to $170k. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting.  Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
