Your OpportunityAs a Project Manager, you will support mostly local clients and be responsible for safely leading multi-discipline engineering and plant operations teams through the life cycle of small to midsize capital projects, from initial project definition through commissioning and start up. The project teams are often made up of people from various companies and backgrounds, including Stantec, Client’s local operation team, and the Clients other trusted engineering partners.
As the Project Manager, and ultimately responsible for the implementation of the project, you are expected to keep the owner’s interests in mind throughout the life cycle of the project.

Reporting Relationships
This role will report internally to the Business Center Operations Leader but will have other “soft” lines of reporting. Acting as a Project Manager for the Client, this role will also report externally to the Client’s representative, typically the Engineering Manager for the facility.
This role is expected to work at the Client’s facility up to 3 days per week. It is the expectation this Project Manager will assimilate with the Client’s local team, learning the site and the team members to build project team relationships that foster open communication.
The Project Manager will need to lead multi-discipline teams. These teams, while not necessarily reporting directly to the Project Manager, and in many cases not part of the same company as the Project Manager, will report to the Project Manager for items related to project scope, schedule, and budget. It is the Project Manager’s responsibility to define the expectations of these teams and hold the teams accountable to the agreed expectations.
Your Key ResponsibilitiesBusiness Development
Capitalize on an existing client relationship to expand Stantec’s profile. Interface with client to understand upcoming projects and prepare effective technical proposals outlining scope, schedule, and budget. Develop and expand client relationship that generate repeat business.Project Management
Oversee multiple projects simultaneously within scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables. Oversee and manage multiple projects with teams consisting of in-house professionals, designers, and engineers and strategic teaming partners and subconsultants. Monitor project health, including budget and schedule with the help of project control personnel. Provide leadership in managing project-related staff performance, and mentoring personnel for overall success of project team. Lead project coordination meetings with clients, internal team members and/or external consultants, contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors. Identify potential changes in scope/schedule/budget. These will arise in virtually any project and can be due to unforeseen developments, new regulatory developments, changes in customer’s instructions, or a variety of reasons. Understand and direct work within Stantec's quality control guidelines. Become a champion of Stantec's and the client’s EH&S program, with a focus on safety in design and in the field. Complete staff resource planning for assigned projects and participate in employee recruiting where required. Lead and Drive projects toward efficient and effective action, to keep project progress moving, and take active ownership to maintain schedule, quality and cost, and minimize re-work. Your Capabilities and Credentials Experience in all stages of a project from development, including scoping approaches, initial studies, feasibility studies and project definition to final design, construction support, startup, and commissioning. Experience managing multi-disciplined engineering projects is preferred. Must have strong oral and written communication skills, and be customer focused to understand and appropriately respond to client’s business needs. Strong understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications. General understanding of multi-disciplinary process, mechanical, electrical and control systems, CSA, and industry standards to ensure scope gaps do not occur. Familiarity with scheduling software and 3D design tools. Must demonstrate effective resource planning, results delivery, and staying current with relevant technology and innovation. Education and ExperienceMinimum of 5 years of engineering and project management experience successfully coordinating and managing multi-disciplined engineering projects preferably within a production facility environment.
A bachelor’s degree in an Engineering field from an accredited university is required.
Project Management Professional certified preferred.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
It is desired for this person to commute as needed to the office located in Plymouth MN, however potential for partial or full remote work (but required to be at local client site 3 days per week) is possible for the right candidate.
Indoor (Office Environment) Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting. Noise level varies but generally at levels of conversation. Majority of time spent using a computer/laptop at a workstation and related office equipment. Time spent carrying, reaching, lifting, bending, pushing, and pulling up to 9 kilograms / 20 pounds Occasional – 1-33% of shift. Subject to extended periods of sitting; may be required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk short to moderate distances to perform work. Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment if needed.
