Description:-
Responsible for building and leading high performing software engineering team(s) in the eLearning space. Measured by the successfully delivering high quality software on schedule.
• Lead by example - demonstrate tremendous ownership of the team, product and roadmap
• Establish technical objectives, deliverables and priorities and ensure team executes to plan
• Define, track, and report development metrics and milestones to support monitoring and continuous improvement
• Successfully partner with Architecture team to ensure product roadmap and architectural vision are aligned
• Act as a business partner to the Executive Director - proactively identify opportunities to improve the team, process and/or product - formulate proposals and alternatives when confronted with problems - ask for help when necessary - find ways to ensure success
• Recognize issues and patterns across development cycles - eliminate bottlenecks - constantly look for ways to improve our product and processes
• Build strong partnerships with QA, Product Management, Documentation, Operations and peer development teams
• Formulate weekly project status reports - identify and communicate risks and issues - proactively formulate contingency plans
• Mentor and assist development staff - cross train as necessary - avoid single source knowledge silos
• Maintain technical edge - pitch in when necessary
• Anticipate future product and platform requirements - proactively formulate new approaches and processes to ensure market success and product scalability - avoid being blindsided
• Keep abreast of the emerging technologies - champion initiatives that improve productivity and take the product and the team to the "next level"
Qualifications
• 5+ years of commercial software development experience, at least 2 years in a management or leadership role
• Proven ability to successfully lead development teams, technical leads, managers and architects
• Passion for execution and continuous improvement
• Proven business savvy - able to manage methodology against schedule and balance competing priorities
• Demonstrated ability to motivate teams, maintain morale and encourage team cohesiveness
• Rock solid understanding of best practices and software development methodologies
• Excellent organizational skills - able to plan and execute engineering activities across concurrent release
• Collaborative but decisive personal style; highly effective communicator and problem solver with ability to assess and clearly communicate technical and project risk
• Excellent project management skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• BS or MS in Computer Science or a similar engineering discipline
