R&D Principal Engineer

Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead and manage the execution of one or more R&D projects to meet project targets. Coordinate work of local and cross-functional project team. Lead intelligent building research and development projects, ensure that projects deliver high-quality products on time and within budget, meet market and customer demand for intelligent building technology, promote technological innovation and development of intelligent building industry, and ensure the efficient collaborative operation of various departments such as R&D and manufacturing.You will be mainly accountable for:Project planning and initiation:According to the company's strategy and market demand, combined with BIM (Building Information Modeling) technology and the development trend of intelligent buildings, the overall planning and roadmap of intelligent building R&D projects are formulated. Collaborate with the manufacturing department to determine the integration of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles in the early stages of the project based on their capacity planning and process level.Responsible for the initiation of the project, including the formation of the project team, the definition of the project objectives, scope and deliverables, which need to meet the relevant in-telligent building communication protocol standards such as BACnet (Building Automation and Control Network). Organize communication meetings with production, procurement, quality and other departments to ensure that all parties have the same understanding of the project's start-up goals and needs.Project execution and management:Coordinate the progress of the project, formulate a detailed project plan, reasonably arrange resources, use net worth management and other methods to monitor and ensure that the pro-ject is progressing as planned, focusing on the research and development progress of key subsystems such as integrated wiring system, security system, building automation system, etc. Work closely with the manufacturing department to adjust the product delivery nodes in the R&D plan according to its production schedule and process flow, so as to ensure that the R&D re-sults can enter the production process smoothly and avoid the situation of excessive production waiting time (WIP).Coordinate the work of the R&D team (including hardware, software, structure, etc.) to solve technical differences and coordination problems within the team, such as the interface protocol between the sensor and the controller, and the optimization of intelligent algorithms on different hardware platforms. At the same time, it coordinates the technical docking of R&D and manufacturing processes to ensure the consistency of production process and R&D design, such as the matching of PCB (printed circuit board) design and production process requirements.Organize regular project meetings to report project progress, problems and risks to team members, leaders and relevant departments, such as intelligent lighting systems, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) system optimization control, etc. In the meeting, a communication link with the manufacturing department was set up to solve the design problems or pro-cess improvement needs found in the production process in a timely manner.Manage project budgets, control costs, ensure that project costs are not overrun, and effectively evaluate and request budget changes, taking into account the cost impact of new smart de-vices, high-end sensors, etc. Work with the purchasing department to optimize the procurement cost and procurement cycle according to the production plan and BOM (bill of materials) to avoid the production schedule being affected by raw material supply issues.Technical guidance and quality control:Provide guidance and decision-making on key technical issues in the research and development of intelligent buildings to ensure the feasibility and innovation of technical solutions, such as the evaluation of the introduction of biometric technology in the intelligent access control system, and the architecture design of the integration of Internet of Things technology in the fire alarm system. Discuss the feasibility and potential problems of new technologies in the production process with the technical staff of the manufacturing department, such as the placement process of new sensors, the assembly process of complex circuit boards, etc.Establish and improve the project quality assurance system, develop quality plans and standards, and conduct quality checks and evaluations of project processes and deliverables in accord-ance with relevant international standards such as ISO 16484 (building automation and control systems). Cooperate with the quality control department to develop quality inspection pro-cesses and standards for the production process, including first article inspection (FAI), in-process inspection (IPQC) and finished product inspection (FQC) standards, to ensure that product quality meets R&D and design requirements.Responsible for working with the test team to ensure that the R&D products pass various tests, including functional tests (such as smart lighting energy-saving strategies, scheduling func-tions of chiller group control systems), performance tests (such as bandwidth and latency of network communication systems), compatibility tests (such as the interoperability of smart de-vices of different brands in the same system), etc. Coordinate the participation of the manufacturing department in the testing process, especially in the trial production stage before mass production, and collect feedback on the performance and stability of the product during the production process.Communication and collaboration:As the main communication bridge between the project and internal and external, maintain close communication with customers, partners, suppliers, etc., understand the changes in demand, and provide timely feedback on project information, including the functional customization of the intelligent building management system (IBMS) and the data collection requirements of the energy consumption monitoring system. Work with the manufacturing department to demonstrate the quality control measures and delivery capabilities in the production process to the customer, and enhance the customer's confidence in the project.Work collaboratively with the company's internal marketing, sales, after-sales and other departments to ensure that R&D projects are closely aligned with market demand and customer feedback, such as optimizing the user experience of the system based on market feedback. Participate in product promotion activities organized by the marketing department together with the manufacturing department, and introduce the production process advantages and quality assurance system of the product to potential customers.Coordinate the relationship with other project teams to ensure the rational use of the company's overall R&D resources and the effective connection between projects, especially when it in-volves multiple intelligent building projects sharing resources such as data centers and cloud computing platforms. At the same time, coordinate the resource allocation of different projects in the production and manufacturing process to avoid conflicts between production equipment and manpower.Risk management and response:Identify potential risks in the project, including technical risks (such as the application stability of new technologies in smart buildings), schedule risks (such as delivery delays from key equipment suppliers affecting the progress of system integration), resource risks (such as the shortage of professional and technical personnel leading to the development of specific sub-systems), etc., and formulate corresponding risk response plans. In the manufacturing process, identify risks such as production line failures and fluctuations in raw material quality, and work with the production department to formulate response strategies, such as backup production line plans, supplier backup plans, etc.When risks occur, take effective measures to reduce the impact of risks on the project in a timely manner and ensure the smooth progress of the project, such as bringing in external expert support or adjusting the project schedule when encountering technical difficulties. When there is a problem in the production process, quickly coordinate with R&D, production, quality and other departments to solve it together to ensure that production is not interrupted and product quality is not affected.Project acceptance and delivery:Organize the project acceptance work, prepare the acceptance documents, ensure that the project deliverables meet the customer requirements and contract agreements, and the ac-ceptance documents need to be recorded in detail such as system architecture, equipment list, software function description, operation manual, etc., and meet relevant industry standards. Work with the manufacturing department to complete the final inspection and packaging of the product before delivery, and ensure that the product is delivered to the customer in the best condition.Responsible for technical support and problem tracking after project delivery, ensuring a smooth transition of the project to the after-sales stage, including remote monitoring, fault diagno-sis and software upgrade of the intelligent building system. Maintain communication with the manufacturing department, and improve the production process or optimize the design in a timely manner for production-related problems fed back after the sale.

Qualifications for the role

Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer engineering or engineering or electronic information engineering.3 years+ work experience of project management, 1 year+ work experience of software or electronical development.Familiar with IPD product development or Agile Scrum development.Project management experience proved by certificate of worldwide company or PMI is preferred.Proactive, team-oriented, highly responsible and able to work under pressure and excellent at communication and coordination.Chinese as mother tongue, very good English (fluently).Proficiency in project management tools such as Microsoft Project, Jira, etc.Have solid technical knowledge of intelligent building related technologies, including but not limited to building automation system (BAS), security monitoring system (CCTV, access control, intrusion alarm, etc.), intelligent lighting system (KNX, DALI, ZigBee and other protocol control), integrated wiring system (PDS), communication network system (including wired and wire-less network), etc., and understand its relevant standards and specifications.Have good programming skills or have a deep understanding of the software development process (such as familiar with one or more programming languages such as C++, Java, Python), and be able to participate in the development or optimization of intelligent building software platforms (such as SCADA systems, IBMS systems).Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills, able to analyze and optimize the operating data of intelligent building systems through data analysis tools (such as MATLAB, Excel advanced functions, etc.).Excellent leadership and team management skills can motivate and guide team members to achieve project goals, and promote team members' collaboration in the multi-discipline integra-tion environment of intelligent buildings.Excellent communication and coordination skills, able to effectively communicate with people in different departments and levels, including professional communication with architectural designers, construction parties, equipment suppliers, etc.Strong ability to work under pressure and adaptability, and be able to cope with various challenges in a complex project environment, such as changes in construction site conditions and sudden technical problems.With a sense of innovation and keen market insight, he can promote the innovation of R&D projects in terms of technology and application, and lead the development trend of the intelligent building industry, such as the introduction of artificial intelligence in the application of energy consumption management in intelligent buildings.
