Project Manager (Arts in Health) - Fulltime - Days - Detroit

GENERAL SUMMARY:
This position reports to the Arts in Health Manager and is responsible for developing, planning, implementing, and managing projects related to art strategy in support of the systemwide vision for art curation. Projects vary in complexity and scope, and include capital projects, space renovations, artwork commissions, and other art collection projects to enhance the overall ambiance of healthcare and public spaces across all Henry Ford Health facilities. Under minimal supervision, the Arts in Health Project Manager will manage permanent and temporary art installation projects through various stages of development, as well as art maintenance, conservation, and collection records, with a focus to realize the full potential of art to heal and enhance patient, staff, and stakeholders’ experiences.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· PROJECT PLANNING:Identify and meet with stakeholders, review architectural drawings to develop project objectives and parameters, artwork needs, and qualifications for commissioned artists. Establish art plan with budgets and schedule.
· COMMUNITY OUTREACH:Develop and implement community outreach and involvement plans for project. Represent and present the project to internal and external stakeholders and the general public, as determined by project scope.
· ART SELECTION:With the Curator, source artwork and conduct the artist selection process including implementing an outreach plan to inform artists of the opportunity, researching, and recruiting qualified artists, scheduling, and conducting review panels, as needed. Write, negotiate, and administer project contracts, ensuring all artist/contractor responsibilities, deliverables and milestones are met.
· DESIGN DEVELOPMENT:Oversee development and design of art proposals, ensuring design intent (as approved) is met. Exercise aesthetic judgment, as necessary.
· PROJECT INTERFACE AND PROBLEM SOLVING:Coordinate the design and execution of the artist’s work with other Henry Ford Health project managers, contractors, and design team members, as necessary. Assist commissioned artists in finding qualified subcontractors, as necessary. Anticipate and address possible problems or issues that may arise in course of the project to prevent future complications, and to use initiative, creativity, and diplomacy to address and resolve any problems and conflicts that arise during the project, either technical issues, or disagreements between the parties, problems with the interface between the project and the community to name a few.
· CAPITAL PROJECTS:Ensure art plans reflect project design and construction documents; commissioned artist projects are documented in construction plans; review all bid documents and specifications for full and correct documentation of the artwork into the construction documents and specifications; consult with experts to ensure that artwork as designed, fabricated, and installed complies with building and fire codes, ADA requirements, and Henry Ford infection control criteria; is properly engineered, fabricated, and installed by qualified licensed contractors.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
+ Bachelor's degree in studio art, design, art history, or related field required.
+ Minimum three (3) years of project management experience required.
+ Strong understanding of art and materials, and art handling, required.
+ Ability to read and understand architectural drawings preferred.
+ Experience working in a health-care setting preferred.
+ Ability to manage large, complex, simultaneous assignments with potentially conflicting priorities and deadlines.
+ Strong computer skills, including Microsoft office suite, required.
+ Must possess excellent communication skills- written, verbal and listening skills.
+ Must demonstrate all aspects of professionalism, including prompt and courteous service, positive demeanor in stressful situations, and attention to detail.
+ Ability to demonstrate creativity and innovative thinking.
+ Must have enthusiasm and possess excellent interpersonal skills.
+ Must enjoy collaboration and be a team player.
+ Job requires attendance at occasional night and/or weekend meetings and events.
+ It also requires site visits to construction sites, fabrication shops, and artists' studios.
