Project Manager II - Electrical Engineering

DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker continues to expand our growing architectural and building engineering practice. To enable continued growth, Michael Baker's Baltimore Practice seeks an Electrical Engineering Project Manager to join our team. This position could report out of our Alexandria or Baltimore location. This growing group of building engineers, planners, and architects believes that the beauty of a project resides both in performance and aesthetics – “success” to us is measured by functionality, value, and exceeding clients’ expectations to “Make a Difference.” The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic Electrical Engineer with responsibilities including design and documentation for a broad range of project types. With a current focus on growing opportunities, including Transportation, State and Municipal, Aviation, Federal, and Industrial, they will work in multi-disciplinary, collaborative project design teams with architects, interior designers, civil engineers, and building systems engineers. They must demonstrate organizational skills, an ability to work in a team environment, and an advanced understanding of construction documents and constructability. With limited guidance from their manager, the ideal candidate will plan, direct, and coordinate activities of their designated projects to ensure that the goals or objectives of the project are accomplished within the prescribed timeframe and funding parameters.

Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not necessarily limited to:

Provide electrical designs at a level of competence of being in responsible charge of the design; stamp and seal documents; field technical questions; peer review electrical designs. Play an integral part in the preparation of proposals, qualifications submittals, and interview presentations. Train and oversee the work of less experienced electrical engineers, designers, and CAD technicians. Establish and meet timelines and deadlines; prepare construction documents and reports; coordinate with subconsultants; coordinate final production and delivery of electrical designs. Reviews project proposal or plan to determine scope, schedule, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing projects, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of a project. Establish work plan and staffing for each phase of a project and arrange for project personnel recruitment or assignment. Develops/implements project plans/methodologies for complex projects, varying between single and multi-discipline practices. Confers with project staff to outline workplan and to assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority. Manages the resources of a project. Directs and coordinates activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within the prescribed budget. Performs analysis of project management development and success in order to align with company goals and strategies. Reviews status reports prepared by project personnel and modifies schedules or plans as required. Prepares project reports for management, clients, or others and performs cost management analysis. Develops and maintains client engagement to ensure satisfaction. Influence clients into winning work (new work added) for future projects. Confers with project personnel to provide technical advice and to resolve problems. Coordinates project activities with activities of government regulatory or other governmental agencies. Conducts safety meetings and training programs to ensure safety requirements are met. Generate and/or approve purchase orders, rebills, and credits. Reviews timesheets. Supervises employees (as direct reports are assigned) and indirect external project staff. Occasional to moderate travel may be required. Other duties as assigned.

 

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with a focus on Electrical Engineering. 10+ years of related experience including experience managing complex projects and personnel. Professional Engineer license required. Must be licensed in Maryland or have the ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively on all levels both visually and verbally with team members, customers, subcontractors, and vendors. Possess a proficient understanding of inter-relationships among design & engineering disciplines, clients, and constructors. Demonstrated ability to manage teams across multiple offices and with several subconsultants. Establish clear lines of communications within project team and with client for free flow of information. Demonstrated intimate familiarity with client’s requirements, challenges, and key areas of interest for growth. Demonstrated problem-solving, negotiations, and decision-making skills. Possess a proficient understanding of inter-relationships among design and engineering disciplines, clients, and contractors. Engineering software experience (AutoCad Civil 3D, Visual, AGI32). Knowledge of Building Information Modeling (Revit/BIM). Knowledge of Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, and Sharepoint. Knowledge of codes and standards such as NEC, NESC, IEEE, IES, and FAA ACs. Knowledge of UFCs is a plus. Federal (Department of Defense) experience is a plus.

COMPENSATION
The approximate compensation range for this position is $105,989 to $165,525.  This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting.  Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
