Job Description
The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) protects public health and the environment by supplying clean drinking water, collecting and treating wastewater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 5,500 employees. DEP delivers more than 1.1 billion gallons per day of the highest quality drinking water to 8.3 million NYC residents and more than 1 million people in Upstate New York and has a wastewater conveyance and treatment system capable of processing over 1.3 billion gallons of wastewater per day to protect the environment and the city’s surrounding waterways.
The Bureau of Environmental Compliance’s mission is the enforcement of environmental laws and regulations, which affect the health and safety of the public and environment. Specifically, the bureau enforces the City’s Asbestos regulations as well as the Air and Noise Codes. The Bureau is comprised of the Division of Air & Noise Policy, Permitting and Enforcement and the Asbestos Control Program. These divisions respond to; air and noise code complaints; inspect and track asbestos removal projects; and foster the goals of environmental protection.
The Project Manager Intern will perform technical duties in support of the New York City Air Pollution Control Program. The selected candidate will receive training and develop proficiency in performance of the following duties: examine application requests to register and operate combustion and industrial process equipment; performs field inspections, including use of testing instrumentation of equipment to be permitted; preparing technical reports related to field inspections and other technical and regulatory matters; may also be assigned other duties related to stationary air pollution source control; inspecting premises and construction sites in connection with issuance of pertinent permits; inspecting an installation to assure adherence to specifications, plans and work permits; conducting engineering analysis and write preliminary report of new technologies presented to the Department.
Qualifications
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, landscape architecture, architectural technology, construction, construction management, construction technology, sustainable design, urban planning, urban studies, city planning, transportation planning, business administration, or public administration; or
2. A master’s degree in architecture that is the first professional degree in architecture from an accredited college or university.
