Job Title: Project Mechanical Engineer

Job Description

As a Project Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for developing designs and substantiation packages for FAA Parts Manufacturer Approval applications, assisting in the development of manufacturing processes for airworthy flight components, and coordinating various inspection activities. You will work closely with our Quality Assurance department, ODA, Technical Services, and management to ensure the highest standards of safety and reliability.

ResponsibilitiesDevelop designs and substantiation packages for FAA Parts Manufacturer Approval applications.Assist in the development of manufacturing processes for airworthy flight components.Coordinate first article or conformity inspection activities between the company’s Quality Assurance department, ODA, Technical Services, and management.Develop vendor substantiation requirements for outside manufacturing vendors.Support activities related to new vendor qualification, including new vendor identification and selection.Support QA department and vendors with questions about drawing interpretation, manufacturing methods, inspection methods, etc.Participate in the disposition of non-conforming materials, including analyzing the non-conformance for fit, function, safety, and reliability, and communicate with QA, suppliers, and the FAA liaison as required.Complete Engineering Changes with supporting substantiation as required.Support customers and operators regarding our products.Advise more junior P.E.’s on designs, methods, regulations, and procedures.Essential Skills3+ (junior) or 6+ (sr) years of engineering experience.Experience using 3D CAD software (Pro-Engineer, Solidworks, etc.).Project management skills.Experience in a manufacturing environment or design for manufacturability.Passion for hands-on engineering (e.g., taking things apart, working on cars, working with machinery).Additional Skills & QualificationsKnowledge of working with suppliers directly around designs.Experience with inspection methods.Proficiency in GD&T.Familiarity with FAA regulations.Experience in stress or thermal analysis.Work Environment

This position will work primarily in an office environment with a low noise level, but may occasionally have exposure to the manufacturing floor, which has mid to high noise levels and exposure to manufacturing machinery, equipment, and chemicals. There will be occasional travel to industrial locations, including aircraft and hangars.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $48.87 - $62.50/hr.
