Project Radiation Safety Officer

The Ion Beam Facility consists of two accelerator buildings and an adjacent support building, where the radionuclides of concern are tritium and carbon-14. We are seeking an experienced professional who can support the project team as the on-site Project Radiation Safety Officer. An individual who can effectively embrace the technical and operational challenges of high profile and critically important field level decommissioning support activities. An individual that can execute the performance of project radiation safety management, and its radiological controls and processes to the highest technical and data integrity standards as set forth by APTIM, and project stakeholders. **What you can expect from APTIM:** + Work that is worthy of your time and talent + Respect and flexibility to live a full life at work and at home + Dogged determination to deliver for our clients and communities + A voice in making our company better + Investment into your personal and professional development **General Responsibilities:** + Maintains the company's health physics policies and procedures during this field project assignment. + Overviews field Health Physics Technician and Supervisors level of effort to ensure alignment with the objectives of the project work schedule. + Overviews and manages all radiological control aspects of the project, including, staff maintenance, radiation measuring equipment, Liquid Scintillation Counter analyses, the conduct of radiological surveys and radiological sampling; interprets survey and sample data; assist in the writing of detailed Site-Specific Radiological Control Work Plan and permits. + Provides instruction to others regarding radiological hazards. + Interfaces with management, customers, regulators, and stakeholders as the health physics/radiation safety subject matter expert. **Basic Qualifications:** + Shall have at least a bachelor's degree in one of the physical sciences, industrial hygiene, or engineering from an accredited college or university + Must have a minimum of 7 years of operational health physics experience within the radiation safety field. DOE facility decommissioning, dismantlement and decontamination experience is preferred. + Familiarity with DOE 10 CFR 835 and other DOE radiation protection regulations and standards. + Familiarity with tritium sampling and detection principles. Experience with Liquid Scintillation Counters preferred. + Position requires HAZWOPER 40-hour qualification with current annual refreshers + Must be able to gain medical qualification to wear respiratory equipment without limitations in support of project work objectives. + Must be able to perform work in modified level D and C PPE, including the wearing of respiratory protection. + Must be able to work in both office and construction site environments, including; walking, standing, kneeling, climbing and be able to lift up to 50 lbs. + Must be able to work overtime as required. + Must be able to perform administrative functions utilizing standard offices suite products including Microsoft® Word and Excel. + Must have validated skills in performing mathematical calculations, including algebra. **Who we are and what we do:** APTIM is a global industry leader headquartered in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
