Project Scientist

The Department of Biological Chemistry/IGP is recruiting for a Project Scientist series position in Professor Eisenberg’s laboratory.

This position is intended for collaborative research working on therapies and diagnostics for neurodegenerative conditions, including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, FTD, and ALS. Both small-molecule and peptide compounds are being studied. Work includes chemical synthesis and purification, protein expression and purification, protein extraction from post-mortem tissues, in vitro, cellular and animal assays, and structure determination by cryo-EM.

Job responsibilities include supporting the PI in the design and execution of funded projects, including preparation of protein samples for assays with putative drug leads, execution of in vitro, cellular, and animal based assays of compound safety and efficacy, determination of cryoEM structures of fibril-small molecule and fibril-peptide compexes, design and testing of disassemblors of pathological fibrils associated with disease.- Also assisting in preparation of grant proposals, research papers, and reviews.

A successful candidate(s) will have the following qualifications:

Ph.D. in chemistry. Experience in chemical synthesis, protein expression and purification. Experience in extraction of pathological fibrils from post-mortem tissues, in vitro and cellular assays.
