Project Scientist

The Department of Biological Chemistry/DGSOM is recruiting for a Project Scientist position in Dr. Plath’s laboratory.

A Project Scientist position is available for motivated individuals within Dr. Plath's laboratory at UCLA's Department of Biological Chemistry. The focus of the Plath Lab is on understanding the gene regulatory mechanisms underlying cellular plasticity and differentiation will open the door to manipulate cell identity and gene expression states and to understand disease processes. To uncover such mechanisms, the studies in the lab are informed by two key processes: the reprogramming of somatic cells to the pluripotent state and the regulation of nuclear compartments and gene expression by long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs). We are seeking candidates who are creative and eager to address these questions. Our lab at UCLA emphasizes fostering individual growth within a collaborative community. We are dedicated to supporting every member's career journey.

Depending on their background, each appointee will actively participate in multiple projects and publications, immersing themselves in one of the leading institutions for biomedical research globally. Job responsibilities include supporting the Principal Investigator (PI) in the design and execution of various projects, which involve studies of X-chromosome dosage compensation, male/female differences, and molecular mechanisms of cell fate change. Additionally, responsibilities include assisting the PI in study design, managing day-to-day tasks related to project management, analyzing data, preparing and submitting manuscripts, and supervising and collaborating with graduate/undergraduate students, high school students as well as postdoctoral fellows in the group.

This General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Statement for Persons in the European Economic Area is designed to provide information regarding the types of Personal Information that the University of California's Human Resources departments and offices collects.

Please be advised that the final candidate recommended for hire into a critical (or otherwise designated) position will be required to successfully complete a background investigation. Any convictions will be evaluated to determine if they directly relate to the responsibilities and requirements of the position. Having a conviction history will not automatically disqualify an applicant from being considered for employment.
