Position Overview
Our office in Chicago, Illinois is seeking a responsible, self-sufficient Project Scientist to work on projects related to the assessment of employee exposures and the evaluation of environmental, health and safety (EHS) compliance issues at industrial and commercial sites. The successful candidate will be skilled in the technical and regulatory aspects of health and safety with a focus on industrial hygiene, compliance, and risk assessment. They will perform various health and safety consulting services in project/client sectors that may include manufacturing, technology, logistics, petroleum/energy, legal, government/utility, and real estate.
Position Requirements:
Must have a B.S. degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Safety Management, Public Health or related field. Candidates working toward professional credentials such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and/or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred. Minimum of 4 years of work experience which includes health and safety in a consulting work environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proactive and independent with the ability to take initiative. Excellent interpersonal skills including collaborative and team building skills. Proven track record of delivering client ready work products. Able to remain flexible and develop creative solutions during evolving field situations. Excellent time management skills with the ability to meet internal and external client deadlines. General familiarity with federal and state laws, regulations, and best practices applicable to health and safety (e.g., OSHA); experience with USEPA regulations a plus. Experience with a wide variety of sampling techniques including the use of direct-reading instruments. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. Safety training experience preferred. OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification preferred.Essential Duties:
Provide health and safety support to clients, including conducting onsite work such as field studies, data gathering and employee exposure sampling activities. Field support will include regular travel in the Chicagoland area and up to 50% out of state travel. Work with senior staff to learn and become proficient in skills and knowledge related to technical requirements, regulatory programs, sampling methodology, writing skills, and verbal communications. Conduct employee exposure and indoor air quality assessments for clients. Work with senior health and safety staff to compile and analyze qualitative and quantitative data. Work with senior health and safety staff to present findings both verbally and in written form (e.g., technical reports) to clients. Assist senior health and safety staff to maintain productive relationships with clients.Physical Demands/Work Environment Conditions
This position requires work in the field (up to 75%) with the remainder of the time in an office environment. In the field, candidate will be working independently to perform sample collection, record measurements from direct reading equipment, and observe worker activities during compliance-related activities. These field activities require the ability to drive to different project sites and physically move around indoors and outdoors in various terrains. Office work is primarily stationary/sedentary using a computer and keyboard/mouse requiring repetitive hand movements.
