Responsibilities

The Environmental Services Specialist (ESS) assists in planning, managing and coordinating all activities for Brookdale’s Environmental Services Department. Supports the Sr. Director with the completion of documents, correspondence, and special projects as needed. Develops and maintains tracking systems to support initiatives, project progress, and compliance. Independently manages projects as assigned. Assists with creating and maintaining a successful corporate Fresh Impressions cleaning and floor care program, including policies, procedures, tracking, and training.

 

Evaluates cleanliness, products, and processes for communities, including care of carpet and Resilient, LVT (Luxury Vinyl Plank), LVP (Luxury Vinyl Tile) floors, and implementation of the Fresh Impressions cleaning program.Trains associates as needed (community, divisional, district, and regional) on a variety of cleaning topics: proper techniques for general cleaning per Fresh Impressions, carpet and Resilient, LVT, and LVP cleaning.Provides hands-on help including spot removal from carpets, carpet encapsulation and extraction, deep clean hard flooring, furniture spot cleaning, and general cleaning when required.Communicates findings from each Brookdale community visited, and partners with community, district, and regional leadership to achieve desired results.Develops, coordinates, and maintains accurate and timely tracking systems to support routine reporting to Community and Field Operations, Asset Management, and other key partners.Administers programs and initiatives and provides project management as requested by supervisor.Provides information and recommendations for action to communities in person or via phone and email which need guidance in Environmental Services initiatives, or Brookdale procedures. Responds timely to community-facing email inbox.Assists with creation of presentation materials for key company contacts.Upon request, assists the team with the support and coordination of emergency transportation when evacuation of community residents is required.

Qualifications

Education and Experience
Associate’s Degree or equivalent from a two year college or technical school and a minimum of three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Applicants with a background in environmental services in settings such as senior living, hotel, healthcare, schools, or hospitals is preferred.

 

Certifications, Licenses, and Other Special Requirements
IICRC certification as a Commercial Carpet Maintenance Technician is preferred.

 

Management/Decision Making
Consistently demonstrates sound judgment and communication in the day-to-day operations and interactions with co-workers, management staff, and communities including on-going communication around Fresh Impressions or other Environmental Services projects.

 

Knowledge and Skills
Has experience operating floor care equipment including an extractor, encapsulation machine, auto floor scrubbers, vacuum cleaners, shop vacuums, and adequate use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when working with chemicals and equipment. Understands chemical, fabric and carpet chemistry to remove stains. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Possesses an energetic, can-do attitude while being customer service oriented, motivated, meticulous, and able to work with numerous interruptions. Undeterred by exposure to hazardous chemicals, bodily fluids, and communicable and infectious diseases.
