Hermosa, located approximately 75 miles south-east of Tucson, Arizona, is the only advanced mining project in the United States as of 2023 that could produce two federally designated critical minerals—manganese and zinc—as well as silver and lead. The project has the potential to help power the nation’s clean energy future, strengthen the domestic supply chain of critical minerals, grow the local economy, and improve lives in Santa Cruz County and the surrounding community for generations to come.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

The Projects and Infrastructure Engineer position will be responsible for assisting in management of engineering activities with underground power distribution, underground dewatering, instrumentation, and various projects both underground and on surface. This position will take mine infrastructure designs from the study phase and help to execute them as we work towards safely building a mine and transitioning to an operating state.

 

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to: 
• Mine load center placement
• Mining equipment power requirements
• Ventilation fan power requirements
• Power distribution schematic
• Underground utilities management
• Utility hole strategy for power and dewatering.
• Assist engineering consultant with LOM dewatering design/implementation.
• Help with interlevel dewatering design.
• Dewatering schematic
• Select appropriate dewatering pumps.
• Instrumentation for ventilation, dewatering, paste, and power.
• Work closely with operational technology group to help implement SCADA system.
• Involvement with surface ventilation infrastructure projects.
• Plan, procure, and oversee installation of underground ventilation infrastructure.

• Involvement with underground raiseboring.
• Involvement with underground paste distribution.
• Mine design reviews.
• Review and write SOP’s.

 

ABOUT YOU

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably in Mining or equivalent work experience/education. 3+ years in underground mining. Results driven. Experience working on projects, both large and small scale. Relationship building skills. Good communication and organization skills. Ability to operate alone, safely, and efficiently. Ability to operate without constant direction. Proficient in Microsoft Suite software. Deswik experience a plus.
