Accounting Purpose:
Thrive’s accounting department provides services to property operations, ownership entities and redevelopment. The Accounting Manager will be responsible to ensure high quality and timely services to each group, delivered efficiently in support of Thrive’s goal of 25,000 units by 2025.
Accounting Manager Job Responsibilities:
+ Oversee all property-level accounting functions and general ledger maintenance, including providing leadership to all accounting managers and portfolio accountants.
+ Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the management of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives.
+ Evaluate all procedures and processes for efficiency, effectiveness, and adherence to GAAP.
+ Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual property financial statements and variance reports, providing insights into financial performance and trends.
+ Coordinate with Regional Managers to develop and manage property budgets, forecasts, and financial projections.
+ Review and approve property-level financial reports and reconciliations, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
+ Ensure supervised teams are maintaining reconciliations for balance sheets & bank accounts, including raising awareness for health of balance sheet.
+ Provide excellent customer service and professional communication to clients.
+ Monitor cash flow and financial health of each property, providing recommendations for improving financial performance and reducing costs.
+ Assist in the preparation of annual audits and tax filings, working closely with external auditors and tax advisors.
+ Provide training and support to accounting managers and other staff on financial processes and best practices, including benchmarking departmental strengths.
+ Collaborate with the Director of Accounting, Corporate Controller and other departments to support company-wide financial initiatives and reporting.
Accounting Manager Skills & Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting or related field
+ 2-3 years of prior supervisory experience
+ Experience with financial statement preparation
+ Ability to implement and sustain proper accounting controls
+ Strong understanding of property-level accounting and financial reporting.
+ Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis for multiple properties.
+ Intermediate to advance Microsoft Excel skills
+ Commitment to continuous improvement of business operations
+ Customer service mindset
+ Experience working with Yardi and/or MRI preferred
+ Experience working with affordable housing preferred
+ Certified Public Accountant preferred
