Click here to learn more. Responsibilities Serving as a Property Disposal Specialist GS-1104-9 makes you a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) team and mission. This position is located in the Assets and Logistics Branch, Assets and Logistics Management Division within the Mission and Readiness Support Directorate located in Glynco, Georgia. The position is primarily responsible for the technical work concerned with the collection, utilization, donation, sale, or other disposition of recyclable and excess or surplus personal property at the FLETC training delivery points (TDPs): Glynco, GA; Artesia, NM; Charleston, SC; and Cheltenham, MD. This position serves as Property Disposal Specialist responsible for participating in activities supporting the FLETC Property Disposal Program overall with particular emphasis on the ALM Recyling Program. Typical duties include: Performing a wide range of technical disposal functions that include the following: collecting and processing recyclable, scrap, and salvaged materials and receiving excess or surplus equipment, machinery, tools, materials, furniture, furnishings, or other items of personal property. Documenting actions by completing forms, reports, logs, and records; maintaining databases, maintaining records for accountability, recycling, and shipping. Maintaining familiarity with and application of relevant property disposal procedures, including federal guidelines and regulations from DHS, FLETC, and General Administration (GSA). Receiving, identifying, marking and placing recyclable commodities sent to the warehouse according to established procedures for storage and final disposition. Specialized Experience: You qualify at the GS-09 grade level if you possess one of the following: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in Federal service, that demonstrates the ability to demonstrate the ability to receive, identify, mark and store recyclables; preparing recyclable commodities for shipment, maintaining and tracking inventories; and monitoring and improving established recycling strategies. OR Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree directly related to the work of the position OR Successful completion of 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related; OR A combination of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience as described above that, when combined, equal 100% of the total requirement. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully pass a background investigation for suitability as a condition of placement in this position. This review may include financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs. Work Environment: The majority of work is performed in a warehouse and in an office environment with possible travel to attend training opportunities and professional meetings. The area has adequate lighting, heat and ventilation. The position will occasionally perform work outside under adverse weather conditions. Work may also be performed in a typical warehouse facility environment where there is exposure to drafts, noise, and fumes from vehicles. The potential exists for exposure to dirt, dust, heat, gasoline and grease. There is a possibility of bums, chemical irritations, shocks, bruises, cuts and strains. To reduce dangers and irritations from these conditions, this position follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses and respirators. May be required to start work earlier, stay later than normal working hours or be called back for emergencies. Physical Demands: Work is performed on hard surfaces and in work areas that require standing, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Lifts and carries supplies, excess or surplus property, including recyclable commodities, and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds (18 kilograms). This position must use various types of material handling equipment, including forklifts. Occasional climbing on ladders to retrieve and store material is required. Work is also performed in an office environment which is basically sedentary.
