Job Title: Protection and Control Engineer
Job Description

Provide engineering and design of protection and controls for electrical utility projects. This role requires proficiency in working on protection and control drawings, including one-line diagrams, relay protection, control schematics, instrumentation and alarm schematics, SCADA controls, racks and panels views, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and bill of materials. The position involves collaboration with electrical layout designers, civil designers, electrical project engineers, system protection engineers, construction supervisors, and construction field personnel. Conduct site walkdowns as required to assess field conditions, evaluate and develop scope of work, and meet with client personnel and other stakeholders to collaborate on project requirements. Coordinate with vendors and manufacturers, review technical documentation, and participate in technical discussions as needed. Be an active participant and contributor to improvements in standards and design processes.

ResponsibilitiesProvide engineering and design of protection and controls for electrical utility projects.Work on protection and control drawings including one-line diagrams, relay protection, control schematics, instrumentation and alarm schematics, SCADA controls, racks and panels views, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and bill of materials.Collaborate with electrical layout designers, civil designers, electrical project engineers, system protection engineers, construction supervisors, and construction field personnel.Conduct site walkdowns to assess field conditions, evaluate and develop scope of work, and meet with client personnel and other stakeholders.Coordinate with vendors and manufacturers and review technical documentation including vendor drawings.Participate in technical discussions as needed by the project team(s).Contribute to improvements in standards and design processes.Essential SkillsElectrical engineeringRelay protection5+ years of protection and control experienceBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with PE certificationExperience with utility or oil and gas projects, including refinery and petrochemical environmentsAdditional Skills & QualificationsFour years or more of electrical utility experienceKnowledge of electrical substations and switching stations equipment, such as transformers, circuit breakers, medium voltage switchgear, gas insulated substations (GIS), regulators, capacitor banks, disconnect switches, oil pumping plants, and associated electrical systemsProficient knowledge of protective relay schemes and applications, SCADA, metering, AC & DC power and controls, alarms, fiber optic communication, and equipment monitoring systemsKnowledge of common substation configurationsKnowledge of electrical distribution and/or transmission systems is a plusProficiency in working on one-line controls, schematics for protective relays including microprocessor relays, control schematics, alarms, auxiliary power, SCADA and metering circuitsProactive communicator with clear and concise writing and verbal communication skillsExperience adhering to project schedules and preparing man-hour estimatesAbility to write project status reports and assist in developing project task man-hour estimatesAbility to work in an integrated project team environment and on multiple projects with minimal supervisionAdherence to company and client standards and guidelines, quality control, and safe work practicesAttention to detail and pride in developing quality deliverablesWork Environment

You will work in a collaborative environment involving frequent interaction with electrical layout designers, civil designers, electrical project engineers, system protection engineers, construction supervisors, and construction field personnel. The role includes site walkdowns to assess field conditions and evaluate project scopes. Adherence to company and client standards, quality control, and safe work practices is essential.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $48.00 - $77.00/hr.
