Protection And Control Engineer
Job Title: Protection and Control Engineer Job Description + This engineer will perform protective relay studies and schemes in order to troubleshoot, update relay settings, and develop and configure new relay settings for power utility, renewable power generation plants, and industrial clients. + The role involves supporting projects ranging in high voltage relay settings from 115kv-345KV systems, including substation, transmission, distribution, power generation, and renewable facilities. Responsibilities + Create protection and control drawings and schematics. + Perform project engineering responsibilities including client interaction and collaborating with subcontractors. + Mentor and work with junior engineers. + Collaborate with other internal departments. + Support projects varying in duration from multiple weeks to multiple years throughout the country. + Work with applicable software: ASPEN OneLiner, CAPE, MathCAD, Excel, SKM, and EasyPower. Essential Skills + 5+ years of experience as a Protection and Controls Engineer related to 115kv-345kv utility systems. + Experience setting relay schemes and settings, troubleshooting, and performing calculations to troubleshoot relay settings. + Direct experience with electrical studies and/or protective relay settings, working with short circuit and symmetrical component analysis, time current coordination, protection scheme and criteria/philosophy development, relay settings, logic development, integration with SCADA systems, NERC compliance, and arc flash. + Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering (Master's degree can substitute for fewer years of experience). + Proficiency with ASPEN OneLiner, MathCAD, and Excel. + Experience with protective relaying and design of protection and control drawings/schematics. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience with AcSELerator Quickset (SEL-5030), CAPE, SKM-PTW, EasyPower, ETAP, and RSCAD/RTDS is preferred. + Background with SCADA systems is beneficial. + Professional Engineering license is preferred (not required). + Experience with direct client/customer-focused engineering projects and client interactions is preferred. Work Environment + The office environment is casual and offers a hybrid schedule (Monday and Friday can work from home). + The team size is around a dozen members, but the company is a large engineering firm with 4000+ employees across North America. + The Portland office has between 50-100+ employees.
