As the only academic medical center in the Intermountain West, we perform the entire gamut of cardiothoracic surgery (nearly 1000 cases/year) including a large program in advanced heart failure, mechanical support, and thoracic transplantation. Our Division is team-focused and is a central training hub for Thoracic Surgery residents and PAs for the region. Employees hired into this category will be required to be physically located at (insert work site) if they are healthy and without COVID -19 symptoms. **Responsibilities** + Full perioperative scope of practice + Shared floor responsibilities + Shared ICU responsibilities + Consults, Discharges, clinic follow up + Chest tube placement and removal + Arterial line and central line placement as needed + Endoscopic vein and Radial artery harvesting + Assist as need in all aspects of surgery + Outpatient care coordination as needed + Takes complex medical histories on patients referred for consultation by academic and community physicians. + Performs physical examinations. + Orders laboratory tests, x-rays, special imaging studies and other diagnostic procedures. + Orders and supervises the administration of blood products. + Reaches tentative diagnosis of medical, surgical and other conditions. + Develops treatment plans in conjunction with attending physician to provide optimal patient medical management. + Participates in continuing medical education to include specialty and sub-specialty meetings, clubs, boards and conferences. + Assists in the collection of data for research projects. + Orders consultations and interacts with members of other specialty medical teams. + Participates in special projects and committee functions. * This job description is not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties, responsibilities and qualifications required of employees assigned to the job. **Work Environment and Level of Frequency that may be required:** Nearly Continuously: Office environment. Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead. **Minimum Qualifications** Required Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah. Preferred Certification in ACLS / BLS / NRP / ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria. Utah State prescriptive privileges. Licensure is obtained by completing a Master’s degree in Nursing or equivalency (the only equivalency to the Master’s degree is current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner) and a National Certification which requires the successful completion of a nationally accredited examination. UHPPM 1-56 requires that newly hired non-physician providers apply for credentialing and privileging at the time of hire. This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.
