Psych Emergency Clinician 2- Empath

Inova is seeking a Psych Emergency Clinician 2 to join our new EmPATH (Emergency Psychiatric Assessment Treatment and Healing) team. You will provide essential clinical and case management support to our patients in a short stay psychiatric observation unit.  This unique opportunity combines elements of direct patient care, providing individual crisis intervention therapy, group facilitation and case management to patients with behavioral health needs.  The Psych Emergency Clinician will be instrumental in facilitating collaboration and communication among multidisciplinary team members, including physicians, nurses, and techs as well as community referrals.  This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the holistic care of adolescent patients in an inpatient psychiatric setting while also providing valuable support to clinical and administrative operations.

Shift: Full Time Monday-Friday Days/Evenings - Routing weekends max 1 per month

Job Responsibilities:

Assesses individuals, including individuals considered to be seriously mentally ill (SMI), experiencing psychiatric and/or behavioral high-risk crisis, to ensure the safety of the patient, family, and community, in accordance with hospital and Behavioral Health guidelines.   Provides psychiatric/substance abuse consults to patients that present to the emergency room, Healthplexes, urgent care and or IPAC. Makes recommendations for the next level of care for patients. Presents case to on call physician for admission. Participates in TDO hearings.  Explores all resources available within Inova and throughout the community, to ensure the proper level of care is provided to the patient. Works closely with Community Service Board staff to ensure patient safety and appropriate care for patients being involuntarily detained, in accordance with Virginia statutes. Recommends appropriate level of care, in collaboration with Emergency Department Physicians and/or on-call Psychiatrist and inpatient/outpatient treatment providers, or IPAC Physician. Assigns working diagnostic impression for Axis, I-Axis5, including current Global Assessment of Functionality (GAF). Presents and maintains all information necessary to secure preauthorization for insured patients. Seeks appropriate supervision for those patients presenting in the Emergency Department or IPAC whose assessment or outcome is particularly difficult or complex.

 

Requirements for Consideration:

Master’s Degree – Behavioral Science and Health or Ph.D., PsyD, EdD in mental health, social work, counseling, substance use disorders or behavioral health related field or degree. Licensed Mental Health Specialist - Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). Two (2) years’ experience working in the psychiatric or mental health field with the seriously mentally ill.  Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association
