The Position
Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Division of Public and Behavioral Health, Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health is recruiting for a Psychiatric Nurse 2 at Rawson Neal Hospital in Las Vegas. This position is filling a Patient Safety Officer role. The Patient Safety Officer plays a critical role in ensuring that patients receive the best care possible while minimizing risk. As a member of the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI), this position will oversee the agency's patient safety program, serve as chair of the Patient Safety Committee, work closely with hospital leadership and staff to create a culture of safety and improve healthcare outcomes, promote awareness and understanding of patient safety practices, conduct safety rounds to identify potential issues and ensure compliance with agency protocols and Joint Commission standards, collaborate with hospital leadership and committee chairs in the development and implementation of risk reduction strategies, oversee the investigation of patient safety incidents, organize/conduct root cause analysis for incidents meeting the sentinel event criteria or requested by Hospital Leadership, review and analyze incident reports, assist in the coordination of agency efforts to achieve and maintain licensure and accreditation, and participate in the organizational QAPI program. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities or intellectual disabilities; OR one year of experience as a Psychiatric Nurse I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Notes
A Bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or Associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience.
Out of state applicants must have a temporary license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing at the time of appointment and must obtain permanent licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing as a condition of continuing employment.

A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
This position may be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
