PSYCHIATRIST - 29i (Per-Diem)

Responsibilities:

Diagnosis -

· Interview patients about symptoms and complaints and determine whether a psychiatric disorder has a physiological or emotional basis.

· Compile and evaluate medical history and mental health findings.

· Screen patients for physical illness and analyze explanations for psychiatric illness, such as developmental issues, family dysfunction, genetics, neurological trauma or social or cultural problems.

· Assessment of risk factors for mental illness and broader wellness evaluations.

Treatment -

· Conduct individual, group or family counseling sessions, and write prescriptions for psychotropic medications under the supervision of psychiatrists and when state regulations allow.

· Intervene with therapy or medication during mental crisis.

· Manage caseload and documentation.

· Facilitate communication between psychiatric services, programs and care givers.

· Initiate, monitor and recommend medications and treatment changes.

Collaboration- 

· Track patient progress and report their results to doctors, including psychiatrists and psychologists.

· Work with other medical professionals to evaluate or change treatment plans.

· Educate patients’ families about mental illness, treatment and prevention

Qualifications: Education/Degree: Medical Degree (MD) with appropriate training in Psychiatry.

· Commitment to the mission and programs of SCO Family of Services.

· Ability to work with children and families that have histories of chemical dependency, mental illness, neglect, physical, sexual, and/or emotional abuse, different cultural backgrounds, and varying socioeconomics statuses.

· Ability to work varying schedules that may cause you to work in excess of your regularly scheduled hours or weekends if necessary.

· Ability to respond to the unique developmental needs of children in different stages of maturation including early childhood, school age, or young adulthood.

· Excellent communications skills, both oral and written, a strong sense of empathy towards our populations served.

· Strong time management and teamwork skills, diligence, and resilience.
