Job Details Job Overview: Good Samaritan University Hospital (GSUH) is a 400-bed teaching hospital located on the south shore of Long Island, in West Islip. We are seeking a compassionate and skilled psychiatrist to join our team in providing high-quality mental health care to patients in a medical hospital setting. The ideal candidate will have expertise in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of a wide range of psychiatric conditions, including mood disorders, anxiety, psychotic disorders, and more. The individual will be able to work competently and collaboratively in a medical setting. This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated professional to contribute to improving the mental health and well-being of our diverse patient population. The hospital has broken ground on a new, six story state of the art patient care pavilion, scheduled for completion in the fall of 2025. New resident graduates are welcome. Key Responsibilities: Conduct psychiatric evaluations to assess mental health conditions and develop appropriate treatment plans. Diagnose and treat a range of mental health disorders, including depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and others. Provide brief supportive counseling. Prescribe and manage psychiatric medications, ensuring safe and effective use. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including social workers, and medical staff, to provide comprehensive patient care. Maintain accurate and detailed clinical documentation in compliance with state and federal regulations. Provide crisis intervention and support in emergency situations. Educate patients and their families about mental health conditions, treatment options, and wellness strategies. Participate in case reviews, team meetings, and continuous professional development activities. Qualifications: Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution. Completion of psychiatric residency program. Board certification or board eligibility in Psychiatry. Active medical license in the state of New York (or eligibility to obtain one). Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Experience in clinical psychiatric practice, including inpatient, outpatient, and medical hospital settings. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems. Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care.
